  • 'Really confronting': Gender-based violence out-of-control at an all-time 'astronomical' high

Gender-based violence continues to rise. Statistics show that a woman is intentionally killed by a partner or a family member every ten minutes.

QPS Assistant Commissioner Katherine Innes, head of the QPS Domestic Violence and Vulnerable Person Command, told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "taking over this role only in the last three weeks and digging into our calls for service and the reality of what this is, is really quite confronting."

"It's interesting because my background is in crime and I think sometimes people think domestic violence is something different to crime, but it's homicide, assault, rape, kidnapping, abduction, life-endangering acts, stalking, strangulation, it's really serious behaviour," she said.

  • 'Shocking': Deb Frecklington responds as second teen involved in Lovell case walks free

The second teenager who was present at the North Lakes home of Emma and Lee Lovell when Emma was killed on Boxing Day 2022 has walked free.

The Attorney-General, Deb Frecklington told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, “The Emma Lovell case, and what Lee Lovell and his beautiful daughters and family have had to go through, quite frankly… has been shocking.’

  • 'It absolutely stinks': Comm Bank to start charging customers for assisted withdrawals

As of January 2025, Commonwealth Bank will be closing certain accounts and moving customers to its ‘Smart Access’ accounts.

This change means some CBA customers will face a $3 fee for assisted withdrawals at branches or via phone.

The Motley Fool’s Chief Investment Officer Scott Phillips told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, 'if CBA get away with this, give it a month or a month and a half and the other banks will all be doing the same thing too, so now is the time to make our voices heard.

  • Remaining members of the Bali Nine could be released by year-end

The case regarding the potential release of the Bali Five looks to be set for a resolution this month after Indonesia’s Co-ordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra met with Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Professor Donald Rothwell, one of Australia’s leading experts in International Law, told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, 'Indonesia's made the offer, it's now up to Australia to make sure that it happens from the Australian side, so to speak.'

'The difficulty that I see is that Australia and Indonesia don't have a prisoner transfer agreement in place.

In other words, there's no bilateral treaty that exists between the two countries that can actually facilitate this process,' Rothwell said.
