Peter Fegan raised the question on 4BC Breakfast of why housing prices are so high in the suburbs after a very modern three bedroom house in Upper Mount Gravatt sold at auction for $1.4 million.

He said, "if the prices keep going up families will simply not be able to live, it's scary."

House prices in Brisbane are skyrocketing at an alarming rate with one Mt. Gravatt three bedroom shack sold for $1.4 million.

In 2018, homes in Mt Gravatt were sold for around $400,000, raising questions about why prices are so high now and when affordable starter homes began costing millions.

REIQ CEO and Real Estate expert Antonia Mercorella told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "The reason that we're seeing these prices is because we've just done such a poor job of maintaining the supply we need to meet the demand."

"There is immense pressure on the established housing market."

"We're not building enough new homes, so when a property comes onto the market, the level of interest, the level of demand is extraordinary," she said.

Ex-defence force chief Angus Campbell will become Australia’s ambassador to Belgium and be based in Luxembourg despite overseeing one of the most scandal-plagued eras in ADF history.

Peter Fegan has had say on 4BC Breakfast on the latest developments in the Ipswich City Council's move to place a media gag on Mayor Teresa Harding with both Councillor Paul Tully and Andrew Antoniolli dodging questions on the matter.

He said, "One would think that if you’re going to come in and declare you’re going to move a motion to silence the Lord Mayor of one of the country’s largest city councils, you would at least make sure you have the support."

"And if he did, why is he backing down?"

The NRL pre-season challenge is just over two weeks away and one team that will be looking to start the year with a bang is the Brisbane Broncos.

Broncos and Maroons legend Darren Lockyer told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "Madge [Michael Maguire] won an NRL premiership, he obviously was successful at Origin last year and he coached the Kiwis to beat the Australian team recently so I think he comes to Brisbane with a sense of confidence that he can make the improvements that are needed and and be successful."

Brisbane Metro is returning for good today after much debate and several trial runs.

Metro Line 2, which runs from RBWH to UQ in St Lucia, will open this morning while Metro Line 1, which runs from Eight Mile Plains to Roma Street, will start mid-year.

Brisbane City Councillor and Chair of Transport Ryan Murphy told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "It's been a long journey to get here, eight years, this has been a real labour of love for us at City Hall."

"It's a great day for Brisbane and it's just the start of our transition from public transport to mass transit," Cr Murphy said.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton is closing the gap as preferred prime minister with the Coalition now leading 51-49 on a two-party-preferred basis.

Most voters believe a Coalition election victory is imminent, either with the ­Coalition winning the election in its own right or in a minority government which is a huge shift away from what was expected to happen just 6 months ago.

On the gender debate, Mr. Littleproud said, "I think some common sense can solve a lot of this without government having to get interfered in everyone's life."

Ipswich Council Mayor Teresa Harding will be gagged from speaking with the media or issuing press releases on major city issues in a vote championed by Paul Tully which is expected to be passed this week.

Peter Fegan ripped into Paul Tully and the Councillors backing this vote saying, "This council is afraid of the media and its afraid of being held to account."

"It’s no surprise that now they want to gag the mayor and effectively ruin our democracy."

He also labelled Paul Tully as a 'media hack' and fellow Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic as Tully's 'dimwitted sidekick'.
