Peter Fegan has weighed in on 4BC Breakfast on Australian of the Year from 2021 Grace Tame wearing an offensive shirt to this year's Australian of the Year Awards.

He said, "To stand on stage representing Australia with an offensive shirt on really speaks volumes regarding Grace's character."

"If Grace Tame wants to wear a t-shirt like this she should put it on her social media but when you are meeting the Prime Minister it's not the place for inappropriate clothing."

The Federal Government is set to speed up the process by which they recognise the qualifications of nurses from a number of countries in a bid to help the critical shortage of health staff in Australia.

Australian Medical Association in Queensland President Dr Nick Yim told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "It isn't a long-term strategy, as you say, it is a Band-Aid fix."

"We've got a brain trust from general practice, public hospital, private hospital, from a training and also medical student to look at the whole pathway, to look at moving forward so we can give strategies to government."

Miss America and nuclear engineer Grace Stanke will be travelling around Australia with a host of other nuclear experts as a part of the National Nuclear Tour.

The tour is hoping to improve the public perception around nuclear science.

Grace Stanke told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "I think nuclear energy and nuclear science as a whole is seen as some weird, unknown science that you have to spend 20 years in school to even so much as break into the industry, but that's not the case."

"Nuclear science is all around us, it's in our homes. If you like bananas, you're actually ingesting some radiation, smoke detectors use some nuclear technology."

"All of these things that are part of our daily lives, so imagine how much more good nuclear science could do if we fully embrace this technology."

Country music megastar Luke Combs is touring Australia, with fellow artist Jordan Davis, starting with two sold out shows at Suncorp Stadium.

Jordan Davis told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "My first ever CMC over here it was a show I still remember."

"The crowd was electric and ever since we walked off the stage, we've been looking forward to tonight, being back over here playing music."

"It's gonna be special," Davis said.

An 11-year-old boy, Thomas has been hit by a car while riding across a street in Coorparoo. 

The female driver did not stop, rather she sounded her horn several times and kept driving.

Thomas' mother Siobhan told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "He says he felt the car sped up, actually, around the corner."

"She [The Driver] did brake, but hit him and rather than get out and see if he was okay, just beeped at him until he got up off the ground, and then sped off."

Gold Coast City Council's has axed a doubled-sided Australian Flag for citizenship ceremonies after much backlash.

Councillor Brooke Patterson told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "A resident called me and said, hear you're handing out double-sided flags at citizenship ceremonies."

"I just thought it was wrong, I thought there's no way and I went to the Department and Mayor's Office and found out no, this has happened," Councillor Patterson said.

Several key issues are facing the Queensland Police Service at the moment such as anti-Semitism, officers having to supply their own tourniquets and the case of Gold Coast business owner Howard Wright.

Regarding tourniquets QPS Commissioner Steve Gollschewski told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "If we're going to put another thing on their vest or on their accoutrements, how can we put it in a way that they can access it really effectively and not impact on what they need to do."

"We're working through that and of course I've got to do all the boring things about costing it out and see what it's going to be like."

"I'm gonna do everything I can to make sure they got what they need," the Commissioner said.
