5 Magazine DJ Mixes, Podcasts and Free House Music

Exclusive mix from @dukeshin purveyor of fine beats and impresario of The Goods Thursdays in Chicago. The Goods is celebrating their 5th anniversary this month and we're celebrating with them.

Recorded live by Goods resident Duke Shin, this mix is comprised completely of personal favorites and gems that have often found their way into his playlists. From early groove starters to more bumps as it continues, this mix is a jaunt into a typical Goods experience.

That's not just another headless producer. We were charmed by our first contact with Deep88, the mysterious Italian producer and the featured DJ for this 5 Mag mix.

Resurrected from our archives circa July 2012.

Andre Harris did a number of mixes for 5 Magazine before his sudden and shocking death in 2014. Coming as it did in the wake of the deaths of Frankie Knuckles and DJ Rashad (we found out about it while on the way to the city of Chicago's public tribute to Frankie), it was never clear if the people had a chance to process it or what a tremendous loss it was to the scene.

We've been unearthing and re-uploading a number of our old mixes lately, and came across this New Mix Monday set from 2011 which was, I believe, the last that Andre mixed for us. As we come up on some sad anniversaries and mark the loss of Frankie, Rashad and Andre, it makes sense to post this one up again in tribute to what he always seemed to love above all else.

Portugese DJ & Producer Jorge Caiado had released several beautiful Deep House records on Chez Damier's Balance and other labels at this point when we asked him to do a 5 mag mix. He's gone from strength to strength since then, with labels Inner Balance and Carpet & Snares under his belt as well. Here's his original 2014 mix for 5 mag, posted up here for the first time.

Alexander Robotnick has always been a forward-thinking producer - I mean, if you're looking for an illustration for an encyclopedia entry for a dance music visionary said to be "ahead of his time," you won't do better than to snag his pic.

So about six years ago, I saw that he had created a massive, 2.5 hour mix looking back with fondness, even love on the Italo era and asked him if we could publish it. He agreed, and this was the result: a special edition of our New Mix Monday set featuring Alexander Robotnick playing Italo classics that blew up everyone's iTunes folder by its sheer size.

Fast forward to today. I found a bunch of mixes that had been squeezed off our site during the last server move, including this one, and realized that sometimes you have to share the love. So here it is, Alexander Robotnick's Italo Disco set from April 2012, restored from our archives and propagated on our SoundCloud, HearThis and MixCloud accounts.
