April 14, 2024 - Life with Jesus Part 1

Today we begin our series through 1 John and in the first few verses we are told what the foundation of the Christian life is- and that is fellowship with God and fellowship with others.

In John 21, Peter encounters Jesus, now risen from the grave, for the first time after denying him three times. If there is anyone Jesus could have given up on it was Peter. At the most difficult time in Jesus' life, Peter abandons Him. Following these events, Peter meets Jesus on the beach and cooks him breakfast and their conversation is life-changing.

In John 20, the first witness to the resurrection was Mary Magdalene, a committed follower of Jesus who at first didn't recognize Jesus. It was when Jesus called her name, that in that instant she knew it was her Savior. The resurrection is all at once for one person and the whole world!

What happens when man's kingdom collides with God's kingdom? This is made visible in the story of the cross in John 18-19, when Jesus is crucified as the King of the Jews. Man's way to power is not God's way to power. Man's view of the cross is not God's view of the cross.
