This is a response to Thabiti Anyabwile's TGC article "Is There an Evangelical 'Social Justice Movement'?", published on September 3rd, 2019.
My prayer is that our sovereign Lord would be pleased to use this politically turbulent season in society and in the church to further sanctify his people in the truth. As we are further sanctified in the truth, may there be forgiveness, reconciliation, and more true unity within the visible church among all who hold to the true gospel, which is summarized in the 5 Solas of the Protestant Reformation. The bride of Christ has often had her doctrine refined through the furnace of affliction. May God be pleased to refine our understanding of Scripture once again, and may the bride of Christ be further beautified and enlarged through these present fiery trials so that, together as one body, we would shine brightly in the midst of the present darkness, bearing bold witness together to the supremacy of Jesus Christ—our Prophet, Priest, and King.
I wanted respond to Pastor Thabiti in particular because I saw his article as a potential turning point in this whole conversation. But for there to be any real progress in this debate, both sides will need to humble themselves and be willing to come to a better understanding of how the biblical standard of both law and gospel applies to the civil sphere.
