In Washington, members of Congress went on the attack against left-leaning NPR. Jim Jordan and Jamie Comer tried to derail NPR CEO Katherine Maher. She's like, "who me? I drive down the center lane on the highway."

Opinion is part of the media universe, albeit separate from general news gathering. That's what the AP stylebook would have us all believe.

But news consumers like to hear their own biases reflected back toward them. MSNBC viewers are convinced that they're hearing unbiased news reporting and sensible commentary. The exact opposite sentiment is embraced by conservatives consuming Fox News.

Today's issue: the Republicans in charge of the House of Representatives don't want to fund liberal NPR and PBS opinions but are fine with conservative views on various media platforms.

Conservatives control all three branches of government right now so expect this battle over funding public media to remain active for now.

Rick Pitino's #2 seed St. John's Red Storm was expected to run right toward the Final Four the weekend after next.

One problem. John Calipari's unheralded Arkansas Razorbacks somehow beat Kansas and earned a matchup with Pitino's Johnnies.

Cal & Rick. No love. No mercy. No harm. No foul.

Incredible drama on many levels beyond basketball.

Arkansas advances to the Sweet 16. St. John's comes to a screeching halt, but with an NIL package that should restock the roster for next year.

After his NCAA Tournament loss to Florida, UConn head coach Dan Hurley cried about bowing out with honor and dignity just moments after cursing about the referees. Borderline personality disorder much?

Hurley, a bald version of narcissist Kim Mulkey, demands the spotlight, berates colleagues, derides opposing fans, and loves to hear himself talk. Just ask him!

Hurley was a prime candidate to replace John Calipari at the University of Kentucky. The deal never came together.

Meanwhile, Mark Pope answered the call from UK and has exceeded all expectations, conducting himself with honor, grace, and integrity.

The wait was worth it.

St. John's head basketball coach Rick Pitino was reluctant to answer reporter questions about the Big East Player of the Year stuck on the bench while Pitino's team lost to John Calipari's Arkansas Razorbacks in the NCAA Tourney.  No clear answer was given, just pushback from Coach P.

Also...was Maryland's buzzer beater a result of an uncalled traveling violation? Bettors are either thrilled or enraged.

My awesome son Simon T Meiners is a walking, talking Kentucky historian and TikTok celeb. Simon has traveled throughout the commonwealth to learn and listen about Kentucky's rich history and hardy people.

He's a research specialist for Frazier History Museum and an enthusiastic University of Louisville sports fan. We discussed the Louisville Cardinals' tall task in the NCAA tournament, buoyed by the team's amazing comeback from obscurity these past few years.

Simon also spotlighted Night at the Frazier, a massive party on April 5th at the museum.

Steve Taylor, assistant director of the Louisville Zoo, made friends with elephant Punch back in 1975. It was Steve's new job and he had no idea he'd stay for half a century. Kyle Shepherd, a 14 year Louisville Zoo associate, joined Steve on WHAS Radio to tell the tale of the upcoming departure of both of our beloved elephants Mikki and Punch.

Long ago WHAS marketing whiz Peppy Martin eventually settled for a political run in 2023. Hey, why not run for governor? She arrived nearly two hours ahead of her interview time and sat quietly outside my studio.
