みなさんこんにちは、かなこです！今日のシャドーイングは「動詞(どうし)を名詞(めいし)にする」です。

Hi everyone, it’s Kanako. Today’s shadowing is “Transform Verbs into Nouns”. When you want to describe what you like to do or are good at, you can change the verbs into nouns by using short form plus “の”. “の” acts like “- ing” or “to” in English.

For instance, if you want to describe that you like to go to coffee shops you can’t say “I like go to coffee shops”. You have to change “go” to “going” or “to go”. That’s the same idea of using “の”. The sentence would be like this. カフェに行くのが好きです。

I like eating.  食(た) べるの が 好(す)きです。

I don’t like eating alone.  ひとりで 食(た) べるの が 嫌(きら)いです。

I like swimming.  泳(およ)ぐの が 好(す)きです。

I like cleaning.  掃除(そうじ) するの が 好(す)きです。

I don’t like doing laundry.　洗濯(せんたく)するのが 嫌(きら)いです。

I like playing sports.  スポーツするの が 好(す)きです。

I don’t like playing video games.  ゲームするの が嫌(きら)いです。

I’m good at cooking.  料理(りょうり)するの が 上手(じょうず)です。

I’m not good at speaking French.  フランス語を 話(はな)すの が 下手(へた)です。

I’m not good at singing.  歌(うた)うの が 下手(へた)です。

My mother is good at taking pictures.  母は 写真(しゃしん)を 撮(と)るの が 上手(じょうず)です。

My sister is good at speaking Korean.  妹は 韓国語(かんこくご)を 話(はな)すの が 上手(じょうず)です。

My father is good at playing golf.  父は ゴルフするの が 上手(じょうず)です。

My brother is good at surfing.  兄は サーフィンするの が 上手(じょうず)です。
