Dr. Andrew Pati Ah Young is a Samoan biochemist working at the biotechnology company Dren Bio,based in San Fran where he investigates the underlying cause of various diseases and uses this data to develop innovative and effective treatments. 

Dr. Ah Young was born in the village of Faleniu in Tutuila, American Samoa in 1987 and began his education at Pava-’ia’i Elementary School. He attended Tafuna High School between 2001 and 2005, a period he describes to be the most intellectually stimulating in his life. 

He received the prestigious Gates Millennium Fellowship which allowed him to pursue higher education abroad. Dr. Ah Young earned a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of New Mexico (UNM). 

Dr. Ah Young received his Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles. 

He credits his achievements to the values of hard work and community mindedness that were taught by his family and his upbringing in a Samoa that had so much to offer to a young curious mind.

Do Good, Feel Good is a youth-led movement which activates young people’s ideas to create positive changes and connections in their communities. 

 

DGFG began as a Pacific youth innovation project seed funded through the Ministry of Health to improve health outcomes for Pacific young people in Mangere. 

 

Backboned by The Cause Collective, DGFG has been codesigned with local young people to become a platform for social change and community building among South Auckland youth.

Flora Muahemotu Pihigia Neemia is of Samoan and Niuean descent. She hails from Tuapa Uhomotu in Rock of the Polynesia Niue, and UAFATO Fagaloa, Lalovi Mulifanua and Talimatau from Samoa.

A  graduate of TANGAROA College Home of the Brave she is currently studying part time at UoA pursuing a Degree in criminology Law field while working voluntarily with the Do Good Feel Good youth movement under the umbrella of The Cause Collective, and worked with Fisher and Paykel Healthcare to help our people and families especially the frontline groups who have worked throughout lockdown.

Flora is a finalist in the Miss Asia Pacific International NZ

Ben Atai Low was born in Aitutaki,Cook Islands and has  been passionate about wood art,carving,and creation with his own unique eye for exquisite work and craftsmanship.

From age 7 he  was in a string band, and took up ukulele playing as he was taught by his uncle who raised him and is also a master carver himself.

Ben specialises in creating the 8 string Tahitian style ukulele and is based in Rotorua

We are continuing on with our celebrations of Te Epetoma o te reo Maori Kuki Airani.

Traditional navigation was used for thousands of years to make long voyages across the ocean to find uninhabited lands.

The Cook Islands Voyaging Society Inc (the Society) is as a non-profit organisation established in 1992.  Crossing over to Rarotonga to talk with Bim Tou who is a member of the Cook Islands Voyaging Society management committee that consists of eight executive members.

Bim talks to Ete about elements of life in the Cook Islands such as fishing.

Liam Kokaua is a Māori with 'akapapa'anga to Rarotonga, Avarau (Palmerston), Manihiki, Rakahanga, Mangaia, Tongareva and Tahiti Nui. He has lived in Tāmaki-makau-rau and Rarotonga, recently graduated with a Masters of Indigenous Studies focusing on Rarotonga Māori natural resource management. 

He has recently moved to Tūranga-nui-a-Kiwa (Gisborne) to work for the Gisborne District Council in the area of ecological restoration. 

His passion is in the forms of Indigenous knowledge including that of our natural environment and is active in the regeneration of many dialects of Māori found in Te Moana Nui o Kiva.

Johnson Raela is a proud Cook Islands broadcaster who joined the Tagata Pasifika team in February 2016 with an interest in connecting with the Pacific Islands community and telling their stories authentically.  He has a Masters in Communications from AUT.

Johnson has a background in mainstream radio (Flava FM announcer) and television presenting (What Now, Operation Hero, Polyfest). 

His other interests and work includes academic education, emerging digital platforms, Pacific Island governorship and an ambassador for Variety NZ and Duffy Books charities.  Johnson is currently freelancing in media and communications.
