This morning on Pacific Breakfast, we continue our Talanoa Ako series from the Ministry of education, to help our Pasifika families to champion our children's education. This morning we look at Family routines & goal setting.

Mele Feniu Olivetti - Born Raised in Sydney, Australia, Mele Feniu Olivetti grew up in a home with hard working parents, Stewards then Ministers for Uniting Church of Australia. Raised in Tongan home, heavily involved in church, moving around during School where dad was placed at different Churches for ministry.

Feniu Story: Growing up, Tongan coconut infused oils were used as moisturizer for face//body/hair. It was the only form of nourishment for the skin and beauty regime of a Tongan household in the islands. As I got older and had children of my own, I was only able to get this from relatives who would make this in Tonga. Applying work experience, I decided I was going to go to Tonga to look for a manufacturer to source this from and create my own brand of coconut infused oil.

Found a Tongan youth organisation that made organic infused coconut oil. Ranged Sandalwood/coconut oil. 

Oil imported to Sydney, I packaged and sold online as a side business.

I met Nader who owned social hideout in same complex as my home. I shared with him my business and vision and in 2019 we set up Olivissa PTY LTD as a company.

Named the brand FENIU, which is my middle name. The name is passed down through the woman in my father’s line.

Marie Schmidt, lead advisor with Ministry of Social Development, joins us on Pacific Breakfast to talk about Pasefika Proud. Pasefika Proud initiatives for Pacific by Pacific, aims to encourage violence-free respectful relationships. Especially during the challenging times of lockdown, and stats have shown an increase in domestic violence reports.

Glen Jackson is a multi talented musician of Niuean and Tongan heritage.  

The annual Pacific Music Awards celebrates Pacific music and artists.  Finalists were announced last week Glen is one of the finalists for Best Gospel Song.  Praise to God - Talako album.

Diana Phone was born and raised in Fiji. She is a Pharmacist by background. She currently works as a Clinical Lead at 2 DHBs in Auckland and as a Professional Practice Fellow at the Otago School of Pharmacy. She is also the vice president and founding member of the Pacific Pharmacists Association.

Teherenui Koteka was born and raised in Rarotonga.  She is 21 years old and currently studies film, theatre, and media studies at Victoria University of Wellington, where she is the current president of the Victoria University of Wellington Cook Islands Association. 

Teherenui is on the line to talk with us about some of the challenges facing university students in New Zealand.
