The Government has announced that New Zealand can safely move out of Alert Level 4, since Tuesday Level 3 has kicked into action, Ant Hassett owner of Mc Donald's, located in Mangere East, Massey Road speaks about how busy it has been not only for his team but the busiest it has ever been for them. Hima Douglas is a veteran journalist and former Director for the Broadcasting Corporation of Niue.  Hima served as a member of the Niue Legislative Assembly for one term, and is a former Director of the University of the South Pacific Niue branch.  From 2001-2004 he was the Niue High Commissioner to NZ based in Wellington. 

Mr Douglas co founded the only resort on island Matavai Resort and is also the Editor for online news site Tala Niue.

Dr Alvin Mitikulena is full-time General Practitioner, based at the Eastern Bays Medical Centre in Wellington, which he opened with his brother and sister: Dr Allen Mitikulena and Dr Adrienne Mitikulena in 2010. 

Healthcare runs deep in Dr Alvin’s family: he grew up in Niue with his mother working as a nurse and his father as a doctor. In addition to his general practice, Dr Alvin has also been active in a number of ways encouraging other Pacific students to pursue medicine as a career path.

Peseta Pele Tui is an educator of 20 years, she was the Deputy Principal at St Annes School in Newtown, Principal at Strathmore Community School with an interest in early learning.  Pele currently works as a teacher and centre manager at Pasifika Early Learning Taita in Lower Hutt Wellington.  

More recently Pele is the creator of the Fale of Learning video series.

Taulapapa Brenda Heather Latu is a partner at Latu Lawyers in Apia Samoa.  She is a legal counselor and adviser who specializes in corporate and commercial transactions, civil litigation as well as corporate and good governance.  

Taulapapa served three terms (1997 – 2006) as the Attorney General of Samoa, making her (at nine years) the longest serving office holder to date.

Brenda Heather Latu is a member of the Samoa Law Society which is currently fighting the introduction of a suite of bills in Samoa’s Parliament which the society claims will change the current justice system in Samoa in a radical and fundamental way to the detriment of Samoans citizens and the administration of justice.

Dr Nua Tupai is a GP at Bader Drive Healthcare, based in Mangere with an enrolled population of around 6,000 patients, most of whom are of Pacific ethnicities. Nua is a Fellow of the RNZCGP, is vocationally registered , which means she has completed additional years of study and examinations through the Royal NZ College of GPs, identifying her as a qualified specialist in general practice.

K’aute Pasifika have delivered over 1,000 free care packages including food and other household essentials to families in the Waikato since lockdown.   Working together with local food suppliers, community funders, corporate and public sector volunteers has meant vulnerable families have received much needed care packages.  Chief Executive of K’aute Pasifika Le’aupepe Rachel Karalus joins us to talk about the support they’ve been providing during COVID-19.

Josiah Tualamali’i is one of five Samoan boys in the Tualamali'I family. He grew up in Dunedin before his family moved north to Christchurch.  

Josiah was one of the founders of the Pacific youth leadership and Transformation Trust aka PYLAT (pronounced pilot). He is a board member on boards like Le Va and PYLAT and outside of that has advised the Government on mental health and wellbeing decisions, and does contract work. Today we talk to him about the importance of mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.

Anae Dr Neru Leavasa is a member of the Board of Trustees for Fairburn Primary School in Ōtāhuhu.He is also a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. He has been a General Practitioner and Sports Doctor in Māngere for many years, directed two charitable health trusts and owns a telehealth afterhours provider 'The Waiting Room'.
