A recent Stuff article states that in the past year, food rescue groups nationwide have diverted more than 8.6 million kilograms of food from going to waste, instead getting them to families in need.

A survey by Aotearoa Food Rescue Alliance (AFRA), has shown a 90 per cent increase in demand on the year before, pre-Covid-19 – the equivalent of 24,776,731 meals.

Taura Te Whata is a regional Coordinator with Te Whare Wananga O Awanuiarangi. 

He has taught and delivered courses and products designed to introduce beginners to Te reo Maori and tikanga in a fun and easy manner.  These included Government agencies like IRD, WINZ, LINZ, Te Puni Kokiri, District Health Boards, Mainstream Teachers and Individuals.

17-year-old student Kaitlyn Lamb is the only New Zealand nominee selected out of 100 delegates aged 25 and under from around the world to attend the biennial 2021 Bayer Youth Ag Summit in November.

The 5th biennial Youth Ag Summit will bring together a community of young global leaders championing sustainable agriculture and food security.

 

Previous editions have been hosted in Canada, Australia, Belgium and Brazil. Due to COVID restrictions, this year’s summit is the first completely virtual event. 

This year’s delegates were selected from 2,000 applicants representing nearly 100 countries.

Kaitlyn was recognised for her passion for sustainable food production and her efforts to raise awareness of urban farms.

James hails from Te Tai Tokerau with his whakapapa in Ahipara. He is the Seabed Mining campaigner at Greenpeace Aotearoa as part of the Oceans team and is a fierce advocate for Māori and Pacific peoples. James is an experienced Health and Wellbeing Professional with a demonstrated history of working in the not-for-profit sector.

The Sport NZ Women + Girls Summit 2021 is a one-day event taking place on Wednesday 29 September for those who aspire to or are currently working towards delivering more equal opportunities for women and girls to improve their physical activity and wellbeing in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

One of the headline speakers for the Sport NZ Women + Girls Summit 2021 is Arizona Leger, who will speak on leadership. Arizona is an emerging director with Counties Manukau Rugby Football Union Board.

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is an awareness day observed on 10 September every year, in order to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides.

In N.Z. the annual provisional suicide statistics released by the Chief Coroner in August 2020 showed the provisional suicide rate was at its lowest in three years.

For the year to 30 June 2020, 654 people died by suicide, compared to 685 in 2019 – a decrease of 31 deaths

The provisional suspected self-inflicted death statistics for the 2020/2021 period are expected to be released in late September.

We’re joined now by Leilani Fina’i Clarke, Senior manager suicide prevention - Pacific at Le Va, joins us now on #PacificDays. Leilani currently leads the FLO Talanoa suicide prevention education programme that aims to equip Pasifika families and communities with the right tools and information to prevent suicide.

This week the Fofo'anga 'o Aotearoa Incorporated Society has been hosting the 'Four Golden Threads'  Tongan Language and Music Serieson Zoom & Facebook live, as part of Tongan Language Week celebrations 2021. 

The ‘Fa Kave’i Koula ' Tongan Language and Music Series is a 'talanoa' spread across four evening sessions that has been outlining the  importance and relevance of Faka'apa'apa (Respect), Tauhi Va (Reciprocity), Mamahi'i me'a (Perseverance) and Loto to (Humility) in equipping our Tongan community to achieve success in all areas of their lives.

Each night has had its own theme and special guest speakers, along with musical performances.
