Today, in continuing our World of Reflexes series, we’ll be talking about another one of the primitive reflexes, the Spinal Galant reflex. Each of the primitive reflexes has a fundamental job to do before our sensory nervous systems take over, but these reflexes never stand alone - they are all just a layer. If one of the reflexes doesn’t come on board properly or fails to integrate properly, the consequences can be life-altering and we have to go right back to the beginning to make changes to the way our nervous systems function.
As we take a look at Spinal Galant, I’ll share a detailed look at this reflexes role during the birth process, the consequences of a retained Spinal Galant reflex, and signs that you or your child might be retaining this reflex. Some red flags could include bowel and bladder problems, sensory aversions to tags and seams, and even trouble holding a pencil properly. If you’re listening to this episode and thinking that you or your child has been dealing with any of these issues, there is hope and we can work and get the nervous system going in the direction it’s meant to go in. If this episode helps you, please consider sharing it with someone else.
