The Federal Emergency Management Agency is urging those in the path of Hurricane Helene to take the storm seriously. At the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris pledged continued support for Ukraine. Federal investigators say police in a small, majority-Black Mississippi city discriminate against Black people. The pro-Trump cable channel Newsmax has settled a major 2020 election defamation lawsuit. Plus, there may be a connection between anti-trans legislation and suicide rates among transgender young people.
