Today's episode will be the final episode in our reflex series. There are so many more reflexes I could talk about, but I hope the past several episodes have deepened your understanding of what reflexes are and why they are such an important part of development. As you listen to this episode, it's important to remember that reflexes are not just isolated events that go on. They all work together and have an enormous impact on development. If one reflex isn't integrated properly, it can trip up development and influence a person for the rest of their life. At the end of the episode, you'll hear me talk about some of the signs of retained reflexes and what you should do if you suspect you or your child has retained reflexes.
Before I finish this series, I wanted to introduce you to one last reflex called the Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex, or the TLR. The TLR is closely linked to the vestibular system and a person's awareness of where they are in space. If the TLR doesn't mature properly, it can have an effect on vision, hearing, gut health, the immune system, and more. Children that get carsick easily, avoid activities like playing sports or riding a bike, walk on their toes, or have trouble properly perceiving letters and numbers properly could partially be the result of an unintegrated TLR. If you think your child needs help, get your child seen by someone like me who specializes in this kind of work and get put a plan together that will actually look at your child and their specific needs. Here at Connect My Brain, we really focus on the whole child and I believe that in order to see the best results, we need to look at each of the pieces together.
