Smule is the leading social network for music powered by a family of mobile applications that allow people to play and sing songs together across the internet. The app has 50 million monthly active users belting out over 20 million songs.
At Smule, they believe that Music is more than just listening — music also includes creating, sharing, discovering, participating and connecting. Music is the original social network, with the power to break down barriers, touch souls, and bring people from all over the world together.
When they started in 2008, Smule was just a company with a fun name and a big dream. They wanted to bring music back to its roots and empower anyone to join in. Today, they are a vibrant, global community of music lovers where millions of people across the world come together each day to share their passion for music, make new friends, cheer each other on, and simply have fun.
On today's tech podcast, I chat with Jeffrey Smith who is the co-founder and CEO of Smule. We talk about how he created a new social experience that didn’t exist before, and so changing the name from “Sing!" to “Smule" makes sense because this is about more performance collaboration, also indicating the brand's flagship focus.
Jeff started Smule in June of 2008 with a vision to bring music back to its roots as a creative, participatory medium. For the past twenty-five years, Jeff has co-founded and led businesses either acquired by Novell, Google or gone public.
