Hi everyone, it’s Kanako. Today’s shadowing is “Because”.

You can add the reason or the explanation to the sentence using “～から”. However, the order of the clauses is quite different from English. In Japanese, the explanation comes first, and the fact comes last.

I will study today because I have a test tomorrow.  明日テストがあるから、今日勉強します。

I’ve been studying Japanese because I like Japanese culture.　日本の文化(ぶんか)が好きだから、日本語を勉強しています。

I stayed at home because it was snowing yesterday.　昨日は雪(ゆき)だったから、うちにいました。

I didn’t have lunch because I was busy.　忙(いそが)しかったから、昼ごはんを食べませんでした。

I will not cook tonight because I’m tired.  疲(つか)れているから、晩ごはんを作りません。

I will take a day off because I’m not feeling well.  体調(たいちょう)が悪いから、仕事を休みます。

I wore Kimono because I went to Kyoto. 京都(きょうと)に行ったから、着物(きもの)を着ました。

Would you like to see a movie with me because I’ve got tickets? チケットをもらったから、一緒(いっしょ)に映画に行きませんか。
