Hi everyone, it’s Kanako. Today’s shadowing is “Comparison between two items”.

When you compare two items, we don’t conjugate the adjective itself. Instead, use “Aのほうが　Bより●”. For instance, if you were to say “Canada is colder than Thailand”, it will be “カナダのほうが　タイより寒いです”.

I prefer Kyoto to Tokyo.  京都のほうが東京より好きです。

Supermarkets are cheaper than convenience stores.  スーパーのほうがコンビニより安いです。

Russia is larger than China.  ロシアのほうが中国より大きいです。

Okinawa is hotter than Hokkaido.  沖縄のほうが北海道より暑いです。

Korean food is spicier than Japanese food.  韓国料理のほうが日本料理より辛いです。

The bullet train is faster than the subway.  新幹線のほうが地下鉄より速いです。

Airplanes are more expensive than ships.  飛行機のほうが船より高いです。

I prefer sushi to ramen.  すしのほうがラーメンより好きです。

My father is taller than my mother.  父のほうが母より背が高いです。

Japanese is more difficult than Spanish.  日本語のほうがスペイン語より難しいです。
