Mike has a lot of questions about whether what was portrayed in the movie was accurate or more for dramatic effect when it comes to schizophrenia.
Ryan talks about the diagnosis of schizophrenia, what it looks like, how it is treated, and its impact on the person suffering from delusions and hallucinations and their family. Ryan shares some background information about how the real life John Nash felt about how he was portrayed in the movie and how accurate the symptoms he experienced were portrayed.
Mike and Ryan talk about psychiatric hospitalization and medication and how we have come a long way in regards to treatment from the times shown in the movie. Ryan discusses the high pressure environment of Princeton University and how these environments can contribute to people normalizing poor self care and irrational behavior.
