  • Season 3 Episode 7 How you can make meetings magnificent rather than utterly boring and a complete waste of time
Come on - let's face it - most meetings are a complete waste of time, utterly boring and not really effective. Those are just the face-to-face ones! Video conferences are worse with lots of tuning out, 'multi-tasking' and lack of presence. Yet it doesn't have to be this way. We can make meetings powerful platforms of interaction by tapping into all 7 skills and taking ownership - whether we're running the meeting or have been asked to attend it. Meetings are changing too - herald the arrival of walking meetings, snapshot meetings and the best kind - spontaneous meetings! Listen in - 20 minutes of a power punch of a podcast to supercharge every meeting you go to this week or perhaps ever!

  • Season 3 Episode 6 Louise Chester, CEO of Mindfulness at Work - how the practice of mindfulness makes you resilient, joyful and present

I'm thrilled to be welcoming Louise to this podcast. We discuss how mindfulness is the one practice that can make the most powerful impact to your wellbeing, your productivity, your resilience and your sanity.

Louise first started practising mindfulness in 1994 when she was a Director at UBS Ltd. She found it helped her have balance in her life, while sustaining a pressured career in investment analysis and fund management, ultimately as Head of Research and then Global Head of Telecoms and Media for Dresdner RCM. Louise left the City in 2001 to establish a consultancy practice offering financial and strategic advice to business leaders both in the workplace and at Witherdens Hall, her award-winning, holistic Retreat in Kent. In 2010, she founded Mindfulness at Work Ltd. with the express intention of enabling people to easily access highly-effective mindfulness training, to enable them to create value and thrive not just in the workplace, but in all areas of their life.

  • Season 3 Episode 5 How fluid is your thinking? We need to get curiouser and curiouser to get a whole lot smarter
Fluid thinking is THE skill we need to start cultivating NOW. Tapping into great ideas is a key future skill and Pearson 2030 research shows that it is the quantity of ideas we need to generate rather than the quality. Yet we also need critical thinking skills to become more fluid in our thinking and work more smartly and creatively. In this podcast I discuss the need for these skills and how you can quickly become much more creative and smarter at work. This is also all about having a "beginner"s mind. The ability to think about something - anything - without automatically prejudging it or using our past experience to make decisions or to influence our ideas. Harder as we get older but not impossible if we just tap into being more CURIOUS!

  • Season 3 Episode 4 Julia Hobsbawm, entrepreneur and author on social health in the age of overload and how to overcome digital distraction

It is such a pleasure to welcome Julia Hobsbawm to the show today and I feel exceptionally lucky to be able to have this opportunity as Julia really is in demand all over the world. She is an entrepreneur, author and has defined Social Health as the antidote to the Age of Overload for businesses, government and individuals. Her ideas are being featured by, amongst others, the World Economic Forum, and The OECD.

I talk to Julia about how to overcome digital distraction and what it means to be fully connected.

I first met Julia through her incredible networking club eiIntelligence and being an introvert I'm not fond of networking but this is truly networking of a whole different kind. Julia hosts, among other numerous events, breakfast club with wonderful and amazing people giving short little insights into their work and their world. We then have ideas and connections that spark off great conversations. Highly recommended if you are in the London area... • Season 3 Episode 3 Fail every day and then get back up and do it again. Why we need to cultivate failure more
We really do all need to fail each and every day to be at our best. Why? Because this is how we grow and learn in the fastest way. But also because by making sure we fail every day we will start to take more risks and realise that “it’s ok”. The most successful people in life have failed the most times. If you try to go through life without failing at anything, then you’re not really living a life at all. Taking risks and falling down flat on our faces is part of life; it makes us into who we are. It also builds up our resilience skills and our ability to truly handle whatever life may throw at us AND embrace great opportunities along the way that we otherwise would miss out on.
