  • Spending time alone

James and I discuss why spending time alone is really good for you! As an introvert, spending time alone is an absolute necessity for me but this isn't so for everyone. We keep reading about people suffering from loneliness and linking this with mental health issues. Feelings of loneliness are personal, so everyone’s experience of loneliness will be different.

Actually having time alone is really healthy and actually builds mental strength. Studies show the ability to tolerate alone time has been linked to increased happiness, better life satisfaction, and improved stress management. People who enjoy alone time actually experience less depression.

We chat about how to create pockets of alone time, how to boost your energy and happiness levels and how investing in time alone boosts empathy, critical thinking and resilience.

  • Dr Jack Lewis

Today I’m talking to the rather gorgeous Dr Jack Lewis, neuroscientist and brain expert. Awesomely smart. Biggest takeaways? If you want your brain to function well, be creative and collaborative and if you want to regulate your emotions and respond well to others there are 2 things to do which will radically contribute: (1) meditate for 10-15 minutes every single day and (2) manage your smartphone use. He should know - he’s a scientist! There was so much to talk about that we have part 1 today and part 2 in a few days' time! Great guy and another person in great demand by organisations, TV companies and radio shows yet he graciously gave his time for this interview. He told me others had done the same for him in the past... #criticalthinking #neuroscience #jacklewis #meditation #7skillsforthefuture #podcast

  • The importance of JOY
We all need more joy in our lives! In this episode James and I dive deep into JOY. It’s something deep inside us and something I feel we have lost sight of. Joy isn’t tied to external circumstances so if you nurture it more it can lead to really lasting contentment no matter what is going on around us. And I feel we need that more these days because it’s easy to get swayed by what’s on the news, by situations, negativity, fear and joy transcends all of this. If it’s something you can tap into when you want to and create for yourself this gives you such control and when we have a sense of control we feel better, we are more proactive in our lives and it can support us on many different levels.

  • Dr Max McKeown

Dr Max Mckeown is a renowned strategist, innovator and authority on being adaptable. His work was a source of reference to me in writing my book and Max features in Season 5 where I get to interview fabulous people who have been an inspiration or whose work I reference in 7 Skills for the Future. Max is one of those amazing people who is generous, generous, generous with his time, energy and wisdom. He could so easily have said “no” to this interview request. He leads a busy packed life, is in great demand by the most leading organisations and it would have been easy to turn me down. But he didn’t! He made the time and he was gracious, kind and just wonderful. You’ll have to wait until January to listen to our interview but what struck out for me the most is that to be adaptable and live happy lives we need to anticipate the crap and know how to roll, bounce and get up fast. And it’s infinitely doable and learnable! @maxmckeown #adaptability #generosity #wisdom #inspiration #podcast #7skillsforthefuture #happiness
