Thank you for listening to "Season Two" of the Common Grounds Unity podcast. This series is titled "A Time to Tear Down and a Time to Build" taken from Ecclesiastes 3:3. In this episode, Kevin and Tina discuss the concept of deconstruction with Dr. Andrew Boakye. What is deconstruction, what are the origins, and are there healthy ways to be thinking about deconstruction and reconstruction as it pertains to our faith?
Andy is a London born author, historian, and lecturer in Religions and Theology at the University of Manchester. He holds a BA in Theology, a MA in Biblical Studies, and a PhD in New Testament Criticism all from the University of Manchester. His research interests include the origins of Christianity, the Pauline letters, resurrection theology, masculinity studies, intertextuality and the historical Jesus. And some of his most recent work has involved advising Protestant ministers on issues of racial harmony.
Today many are using the word deconstruction. Certainly, Ecclesiastes. 3:3 teaches there is a time to tear down and a time to build. When building there is need to do some demolition, and yet, deconstruction without rebuilding produces nothing of value. It is important to have balance in all things. In this series we will discuss some of the things that need to reconsider within the church, and then envision ways that we can together build a brighter future for the Lord's church in our day and time.
