8-Bit Eric on Odysee

Sony is reportedly telling PlayStation employees not to publicly discuss the backlash over its plan to end physical games in 2028. According to former Sony Santa Monica writer Alanna Pierce, the company expected massive backlash before making the announcement and allegedly issued unusually strict communication guidelines to employees.

If true, this raises a bigger question: if Sony believed this was the right decision, why prepare for the backlash instead of addressing it?

PlayStation's latest physical game sales numbers are being used to justify the end of physical media—but do they actually tell the full story? Only seven PlayStation games reportedly sold over 100,000 physical copies in the U.S. this year, but that statistic raises far more questions than it answers.

In this video, I break down why these PlayStation sales numbers may not tell the whole story. Were enough physical copies even available? Why aren't the digital sales being shown? Did Sony spend years pushing players toward digital before using those results to justify eliminating physical games?

This isn't just about discs anymore. It's about consumer choice, competition, digital ownership, and whether PlayStation is using incomplete data to support one of the biggest changes in gaming history.

If Sony is ending physical games, consumers deserve the complete picture—not just one headline.

Now it's raising questions about whether indie developers are paying for marketing that gets buried under criticism aimed at Sony instead of their games. Sony thought gamers would move on.

Instead, they're facing a $457 million lawsuit, growing international scrutiny, and now Mexican lawmakers are preparing an antitrust complaint over PlayStation's digital-only future.

What started as backlash over killing physical games has snowballed into something much bigger. Consumer groups, retailers, and governments are beginning to question whether Sony's decision gives the company too much control over game pricing, ownership, and consumer choice.

In this video, we break down:

🔥 Sony's $457 million lawsuit
🔥 Mexico's new antitrust complaint
🔥 Why physical games protected consumers
🔥 How Sony may have destroyed its own legal defense
🔥 Why retailers and gamers are pushing back
🔥 What this could mean for the future of PlayStation

This isn't just another PlayStation controversy.

It could become one of the biggest consumer fights the gaming industry has seen in years.
