Hi everyone, it’s Kanako. Today’s shadowing is “Noun and Noun, for example”.

“や” is used to connect two nouns like “と”, however, “や” imply the nouns are just examples. For instance, if you say “バナナとキウイを買いました。” that means you just bought bananas and kiwis. If you say “バナナやキウイを買いました。” that means you listed bananas and kiwis as examples, so the listener would know you bought something else too.
