Paul Bern era um produtor muito bem sucedido em Hollywood nos anos 1930, além de ser casado com a maior estrela do cinema naquela época: Jean Harlow. Só é uma pena que o casamento não tenha durado mais de dois meses, já que o Paul foi encontrado morto na mansão do casal. Até hoje a causa da morte dele é cercada de mistérios e especulações.
