  • Episode 12: Over-The-Top-TV Killed The Water Cooler Star

    Good morning Shifters!

Joe re-watched the first episode of "The Wire", Jordan watched the first episode of the "Roseanne" re-boot, and both the twain shall meet. They also discuss the Steven Spielberg comments about how Netflix movies should not qualify for the Academy Awards.

In addition Joe and Jordan have a special sit-down conversation with Frazier Tharpe, also an editor from Brooklyn, who waxes about pop culture and TV.

    Things we spoke about:

    • Tharpe (@The_SummerMan) explains why OTT has in changed our viewing habits, for better or worse but largely for the worse.
    • Jordan and Tharpe finally chat about "Sons of Anarchy" -- a running gag between the two of them on Twitter.
    • He also gets very honest about "Ready Player One" and "Roseanne."

  • Episode 11: The End of March...Madness

    Good morning Shifters!

Let’s cut right to the chase: March 2018 has been crazy. The NCAA brackets have been leading the conversation around athletics, however, the socio-political conversation has been dominating the news. In roughly 3 weeks we saw...

    • Gun control and reform and the next generation of activists
    • A "60 Minutes" interview that will remain in infamy
    • Your weird uncle’s Facebook habits that may have inadvertently led to your personal info being leaked to the Mercer’s a la Cambridge Analytica

...and we didn’t do any favors to ourselves by watching "Wild, Wild Country" on Netflix, which sets off a conversation between Joe and Jordan that touched upon everything from the history Oregon to what hip coffee shops symbolize.

That all being said, we decided to speak with Insanul Ahmed, an editor in Brooklyn, NY, who had a lot to say about everything from March For Lives to the last two years in general. It was an incredible conversation full of insight, honesty and introspection coming from a Muslim native New Yorker of Bangladeshi descent. This is an episode you will definitely want to take a moment to listen to and reflect on.

Special thanks to Mo from Brooklyn for providing us with the break music! Check out more of his music HERE.

  • Episode 10: Paddington Bear Meets The Punisher

    Hey Shifters,

Looks like we missed a week because we were hella busy but we are back with another gem.

    In this episode we discuss...

    • Our affinity for "Paddington" the movie
    • How "Paddington" stacks up against "Ted"
    • Joe's experience watching the first episode of "The Punisher"
    • "The Sopranos" prequel (and the SNL skit that eerily predicted it)
    • Our thoughts on Stephen Hawking's passing (R.I.P.) and the subsequent letter that he left for humanity

  • Episode 9: Oscar's 2018 Analysis

Joe and Jordan discuss the 90th Academy Awards, the movies that won and lost, and the actors and actresses whose performances blew them away this past year. Later on Joe and Jordan go back in time, a la "Wayne's World", and review an older recording to see if any of their Oscar Award predictions held up.

    The REAL Academy Award Winners...

    • Tiffany Haddish and Mya Rudolph
    • Black Panther and Rita Moreno (who, like, we totally talked about in a past episode)
    • Lakeith Stanfield

  • Episode 8: The Week Joe Was Away

So last week, Joe took a few days off to explore Paris, France with his fiance which left Jordan looking for someone to temporarily replace him. While one would think it was an easy task finding a co-host for one episode, the truth is it's kind of difficult to fill Joe's Vans Sk8-Hi's. Fortunately, Jordan managed to find someone who is practically the spitting image of Joe to record with him.

    Topics discussed...

    • Parisian food
    • Sacré-Cœur
    • "Dead Presidents" which is on HBO Go/Now
    • "Spider-Man II" (which Jordan, surprisingly, is not a huge fan of) and "Spider-Man: Homecoming"
    • How ill Bokeem Woodbine is (you seriously need to watch that episode of "The Sopranos" with him if you haven't)
    • How Sean Bean stays dying
    • "Menace II Society"

Special thanks to Tyrone Gorin, Asia, Keith and Joe's brother, Mike, for being a part of this podcast!

  • Episode 7: President's Day 2018

Total transparency, we recorded this a little bit before President’s Day. However, we wanted to share our thoughts on the SOTUS from earlier this month and the other current events/pop cultural "nuggets" that came out of it. We also took a moment to interview Dan Johnson, a military veteran who spent over 30 years in the U.S. Air Force. He discusses his life in Brooklyn in the 70's and 80's as a person of Black/Latino descent, how the armed forces put him on a path towards success and of course, who his favorite U.S. president was.

Other things to keep in mind...

    • You may or may not want to watch The Purge: Election Year (as of us writing this it's on HBO Go/HBO Now, should you want to view).
    • Dan mentions the word "jingo" multiple times. Here's the history of this word if you're interested [LINK].
    • Here's more reading on chain immigration for those interested
