Timothy Webby is a Tāmaki-based multidisciplinary artist whose recent practice explores the metaphorical and physical possibilities of the photographic medium. Webby combines these beautiful silver gelatin prints with a method of hand colouring and dying, carefully restoring colour to black-and-white images, resurrecting their apparent stillness into these considered multi-media works. 

In his current exhibition at Coastal Signs, Someday My Prince Will Come, Webby presents a beautiful new body of images taken at Disneyland. Here, Webby heeds the marvel of Disneyland but also its ambiguity, viewing Disneyland as not just a site of amusement but a site of personal introspection and reflection, too. Images of Cinderella’s glass slipper, spinning teacups, and carousels alike, Webby’s images reveal an intersection between enchantment and uncertainty, joy and uncomfortability, carefully utilising colour to highlight these sensual details of an image, emerge it entirely, or replicate its reality.

all the forest stands with you is one of Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary galleries current group exhibitions, showcasing the respective practices of Jonathas de Andrade, Anetta Mona Chişa, Ayesha Green, Arapeta Hākura, Emily Karaka, Agnieszka Polska, Mathilde Rosier, Zheng Bo. Eight artists spanning various mediums and backgrounds, brought together in space through their shared connection to place. Specifically where land, water, air and ancestral presence are not easily reduced to backdrop or resource, but rather remain active participants in shared worlds. 

The exhibition explores the entangled relationalities between the human and the more-than-human-world. Seeking to reimagine our own inherent understanding of the world we live in, and how we might reevaluate our existence of being in a world that is never solely human. 

The exhibition itself moves between various perspectives, exploring power, love and agency, while also dipping in between moments of critique and speculation. Asking us how we might reconfigure our own sense of agency, accountability and co-existence through the world.

A new study looking into the best ways to recover from multi-pronged nicotine addiction has just been launched.

While typical addiction recovery methods include weaning off a product or using a lighter dosage, this study looks into a new drug, cytisine, which can help reduce nicotine addiction. This study aims to find the most effective way for people to make a clean break from nicotine dependence.

To discuss the drug, addiction recovery, and what this study could mean more broadly, Producer Pranuja spoke to author Professor Chris Bullen from the University of Auckland.

This weekend saw the Labour Party hosting its annual congress, with discussions over campaign organising and new policy announcements. 

At the congress, the party discussed a proposal to expand New Zealand’s Apprenticeship Boost, which they argue should support young people to access qualifications, making it easier to get a job. 

Labour also recently confirmed it would not go ahead with the government’s announced rent increase for those living in state housing, an increase which leader Chris Hipkins argued is “cruel” and “wrong”. 

Lastly, the Regulatory Standards Act came into effect this week, which the government has argued will improve lawmaking by holding new policies to certain guidelines. Its opponents, however, say these guidelines are arbitrary, and have criticised them for not including protections for the environment or Te Tiriti.
