Wow, can you believe that we’re already at our 11th episode of 9to5 Goes to Fantasia? I sure can. Watching all these films is exhausting. Oh yeah, this is a bit of a milestone for the site since it’s the 50th podcast that the site has put out. Isn’t that exciting? Well, it is for me.

Let’s see what we have here today, I sat down and watched A Fantastic Fear of Everything first, then we had dinner. We both headed back over to Concordia to watch the completely sold out (we barely got in) screening of Killer Joe. How were they? Listen and find out.

No lie, this is a movie that I would have about a 0% chance of going to see if I was a paying customer. Not that I have any disrespect for the genre or anything, it’s just that I usually have to be selective with which movies I’m checking out when my total ticket expenses start getting into the hundreds of dollars. This year though, thanks to generosity of the festival I’m covering the fest as a member of the media. So I had no excuse. Was it worth it? Listen now, it’s a short one since it’s only one movie. After brief technical issues with the recording for Episode 4 (which became a write up instead) we’re back today with our takes on 3 films and 4 short films! So what did we end up seeing last night? Well, Jono checked out Amok while I went to Alter Egos and then we both met up to watch the Norwegian film Jackpot. What did we think? Well, I won’t tell you since then you wouldn’t have incentive to listen. As always we talk spoiler-free at the beginning then get our spoilers on after a warning to the listener.The shorts? We saw We, The Masses, Alchemy and Other Imperfections, Zakariassen Must Die and a film that is not in the schedule because it seemed to be a last minute addition to the festival called (I think) Super Ego.

Very different and both very funny, we watched Lloyd the Conqueror and Funeral Kings.I think we’re only going to be able to catch one film tonight and we’ll talk about it tomorrow, that film? Yesterday we watched 3 movies marathon styles, it was like a descent into madness as we started it off with Sushi Girl, then headed into Wrong and finished off the evening with Lowlife. Things got crazier and crazier. It was good times.We also adopted a slightly new format for this episode which will be the format that we maintain for the rest of the festival. What we do is talk in super broad terms about the films and who would recommend them to at the beginning of the podcast and then dip into spoilers at around the 7-8 minute mark (we warn you that it’s coming). So if you would just like to hear a quick review and recommendation, you can listen to the beginning of the episode without fear.
