oday your decade under the influence 70’s film re-watch podcast crew take on 1972’s Butterflies are free. Not the Elton song either. Many talented people made this movie, however I’m afraid for me and I’m pretty sure us, all the glory belongs to one woman, Mary Richards Aunt Flo, A.K.A

Eileen Heckart. 

Hippies and Marge Simpson still quote lines from this movie and play, and it’s great, but again Miss Heckard climbs on top of all that and triumphantly claims her Oscar. She plays Mrs. Baker here, and in case you didn’t get my reference before, she played Mary’s Aunt Flo on the Mary Tyler Moore show, and she was fierce AF there too.

Time today to look back to a time when John Voight wasn’t an asshat. Fonda’s still cool. Anyways, today we are showcasing the mighty Coming Home 1978. Directed by Hal Ashby and starring Jane Fonda, Bruce Dern, Penelope Milford, Robert Carradine, and a way cooler John Voight.

Surviving vets and actors tell a story of 1968 in 1978, and yes you will hear Simon and Garfunkel’s bookends, and every other period appropriate song with the word time in it.

I find this film to be beautiful, horrible, sad and hopeful. I guess that’s many 70’s movies, but also this one in particular. Hello 70’s cinema fans.

Movie review time again, and we got 5 for you.

First up we review 1973’s Gordon’s war, an amazing story of a vets revenge on the heroin industry that has ravaged his community and taken the life of his beloved wife whilst he was away. Using his many skills he learned in the Nam, Gordon and his squadron declare it time to kick ass.

Staring Paul Winfield (he’s never even met Admiral Kirk) and directed by Ossie Davis (yes the radio station guy from “Do the right thing).

Next up Billy Dee F’n Williams awesomely stars in 1973’s HIT!

Lando’s daughter’s life was taken away by the deadly drug heroin. Lando puts together a crew to deal with this shit and claim his vengeance.

Also stars Richard Pryor and is directed by Sidney J. Furie.

On we go to the three musketeers 1973.

A film about 3 people who have a job they are not good at, and a fourth who just thinks they are so very cool. Stars Michael York (Logan’s run) and others. Directed by Dick Lester (A hard days night)

Now it’s time for our review of the classic Three the hard way 1974, a timeless tale of some bad ass community heroes who thwart white supremacists from poisoning our water........ with DEATH!

Stars Jim Brown, Fred Williamson, and Jim Kelly. Directed by the great Gordon Parks.

Finally today we end with 1979’s Shellshock rock, an hour long documentary about early punk rock people and bands having fun in Northern Ireland. Stars rad peeps in Belfast.

Special epic 9 film review.

We had a tech issue and re-recorded our six movie review 2 weeks later. In that time we watched 3 more flicks soooo this is a lil epic for us, we hope you enjoy it.

Today we review Peter Fonda’s hippie western (The hired hand 1971).

James Earl Jones as the first black prez in (The Man 1972).

Glenda Jackson as the fourth wall breaking writer Stevie Smith in (Stevie 1972).

Alan Parker brings Billy Hayes Turkish prison story to life in

(the midnight express 1977).

Bill Forsyth brings us (That sinking feeling 1979) about Glasgow youth with a get rich scheme that cannot lose. And finally (Americathon 1979) where ventriloquist acts may be our only hope to save the country. This just in. (The effect of gamma rays on man in the moon marigolds 1972) Joanne Woodward stars in the second longest titled movie we’ve reviewed.

Jack Palance stars in H G wells (the shape of things to come 1979) And finally Tattoo and Susan Tyrell star in (The forbidden zone 1980)

Hi friends,

Remember that iconic twilight zone with Burgess Meredith where everyone bothered this guy and would not let him read, and he was sad. Then the apocalypse leaves him the last human alive with all the time to read books,

and he is happy. Then he slips on his way up the library steps and breaks his glasses that allow him to read books. 

What if I told you that there is a movie where the mighty Burgess Meredith appears naked except for a strategically placed book,

 covering his junk.

Well there is and we are watching and reviewing it today, for you. 

It’s called Such good friends (1971) and if you haven’t seen it, then perhaps watch it and come on back, and not just because Rockys coach is dancing naked. 

Film is directed by Otto Preminger, yes the Otto that helped to end the Hollywood blacklist. It is based on a book by Lois Gould, and stars Dyan Cannon, James Coco, Jennifer O’Neil, and of course Burgess Meredith. 

The quickest synopsis I could give is that Julie’s total shit of a hubby Richard is sick in the hospital, and that seems to open the flood gates for a bunch of  bad news. Oh yeah and Julie keeps having fantasies or perhaps hallucinations to help cope.

One of these fantasies/ hallucinations magically involves dancing with a mostly  naked 

Burgess Meredith!
