Hi friends,

Remember that iconic twilight zone with Burgess Meredith where everyone bothered this guy and would not let him read, and he was sad. Then the apocalypse leaves him the last human alive with all the time to read books,

and he is happy. Then he slips on his way up the library steps and breaks his glasses that allow him to read books. 

What if I told you that there is a movie where the mighty Burgess Meredith appears naked except for a strategically placed book,

 covering his junk.

Well there is and we are watching and reviewing it today, for you. 

It’s called Such good friends (1971) and if you haven’t seen it, then perhaps watch it and come on back, and not just because Rockys coach is dancing naked. 

Film is directed by Otto Preminger, yes the Otto that helped to end the Hollywood blacklist. It is based on a book by Lois Gould, and stars Dyan Cannon, James Coco, Jennifer O’Neil, and of course Burgess Meredith. 

The quickest synopsis I could give is that Julie’s total shit of a hubby Richard is sick in the hospital, and that seems to open the flood gates for a bunch of  bad news. Oh yeah and Julie keeps having fantasies or perhaps hallucinations to help cope.

One of these fantasies/ hallucinations magically involves dancing with a mostly  naked 

Burgess Meredith!

Ok I took a moment to breathe, I think I’m ok to continue talking bout the Assault on precinct 13.

Just fer fun I’m gonna break it down for you. Napoleon is being transferred with Wells to another prison. Napoleon did some shit he’ll tell you about later. Imagine a hick on Vicodin.

A prisoner gets sick so they go to the nearest precinct run by the handsome sheriff Bishop. Now that precinct is moving and Bishop is just there for the night to babysit, meaning it’s not a good time at all for any trouble.

Enter trouble. There’s a gang who has sworn vengeance for a fallen comrade, and some murder over ice cream, and a really in shock dad who goes to the station for help. Wait did he do that before the prisoners showed up?

And the gang shoots n jumps through windows then cleans it up, then there’s operation save ass, an amazing game of potatoes, and..... just forget it. Please enjoy our deep dive into this very realistic depiction of police and gangs in LA in the 70’s.

Bless the beasts and the children, AKA that movie with that Carpenters song. Kramer as y’all know directed many classic films known for their progressive themes, like the guy teachin evolution in 1960’s inherit the wind, 1967’s guess who’s coming to dinner and 1961’s epic judgement at Nuremberg. This one about radical animal rights activist kids who are bullied at a summer camp is just as epic but a bit lesser known.

Here we yer decade under the influence crew is doin our part to change that. Film stars Billy Mumy, the kid from lost in space, a bunch of standard 70’s character actors, and Robert Jason Kramer as the kid who REALLY hates his younger brother.

(Two tons to Taos tonight 1975) Robert Downey Sr. directs this cosmic classic.

(Exorcist 2 1977) Zardoz director brings us Darth Vader dressed as a locust.

And finally we have (Hot stuff 1979) Where Dom DeLuise tries to give us a severely unrealistic fun movie about fighting crime.

Seriously y’all, you know all about this one, and if not, we got you. Join us, won’t you, as your decade under the influence crew deep dives into this Christian superhero film. I found it rather healing to have Jesuits who run Georgetown do some good as priests. Good priests was pretty opposite of my experience soooooooo it’s a nice fantasy to see.
