The women who make the team often have to work several jobs to be able to afford a decent standard of living, and a huge part of the show is the cheerleaders’ fight for better pay.
The people in the series are fascinating, from the heads of the program, Kelli Finglass and Judy Trammell, to the stars of the show, dancers like Reece, Jada, Armani, Kelly V., Charly, Amanda, and many more. Madeline and Charlotte talk about the tensions between what it means to be a DCC — and, by extension, an American woman — and how to preserve your sense of self. They also talk about what it means to be a Company Woman, how DCC becomes a major part of these cheerleaders’ identities, and the similarities between dancers and athletes.
