Madeline and Charlotte are doing things a little differently this week — instead of the normal Tuesday episode, they’re bringing you a special deep dive today into the UNC football program coached by Bill Belichick. 

Lots of reporting came out last week about the problems within the program, including a report from The Athletic, which college football reporter and UNC alum Grace Raynor contributed to. 

The gals are thrilled to welcome Grace onto the show to talk about the rumors that Belichick will leave the program, the strange graphic the university put out, the cancelled Hulu documentary, the Jordon Hudson of it all, the arrogance of general manager Mike Lombardi, the vibes at UNC games, and why the name of Bill Belichick’s boat might be to blame for all of this.

ESPN’s NHL reporter Emily Kaplan joins Madeline and Charlotte to talk about the biggest and best storylines heading into the 2025-2026 hockey season that kicked off on Tuesday. Did you know that there are a ton of brothers playing in the league? That the players fight to defend each other? That Brad Marchand’s current team hated him before he joined it? That Sidney Crosby took a player to get his hair cut? That the NHL is like a family? That WAGs take their jackets very seriously?

The gals are back from Buffalo, where they had a phenomenal time and watched Charlotte’s New England Patriots beat Madeline’s Buffalo Bills — full recap of the trip coming on Thursday!

Today, there are a few big stories to cover: NBA star LeBron James teased “The Second Decision,” and it ended up being an ad for Hennessy — the internet isn’t fun anymore! 

The tension between the WNBA commissioner Cathy Englebert and star players, especially Napheesa Collier, reached an all-time high over the weekend and it doesn’t seem to be cooling down anytime soon. 

The Patriots beat the Bills in a former-Bills player Stefon Diggs revenge game and a statement game for Pats quarterback Drake Maye. 

UNC head coach Bill Belichick reportedly forbade UNC from posting about Maye, a UNC alum. Parents of UNC players spoke to the press anonymously and it doesn’t seem great down there! 

The Chiefs’ vibes continue to be very off — Travis Kelce lost on Monday Night Football while Taylor Swift, his fiancee, promoted her album on Jimmy Fallon.

Madeline and Charlotte have some news: they’re going to Buffalo for the Bills-Patriots game this weekend, so invite them to your tailgate! The gals also need suggestions for what to call the audience of The Sports Gossip Show. 

Now, the drama: Bad Bunny is performing the Super Bowl halftime show, and the announcement was anticlimactic. LeBron James posted a Reel on Instagram that seems very retirement-coded — Taylor Swift isn’t the only one doing numerology over here! In NFL news, Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart *didn’t* say anything about Chargers’ QB Justin Herbert’s girlfriend Madison Beer. Cowboys-Packers revenge game ended in a tie, which was also anticlimactic. 

The WNBA tea is hot this week. Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve was suspended and fined for running onto the court and comments she made about the officiating after a foul wasn’t called on the Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas, who collided with Lynx star Napheesa Collier. The Aces head coach Becky Hammon and Fever head coach Stephanie White both got fined for backing Reeves up. All of this brings up a bigger issue: The officiating in the WNBA needs to improve. Plus: Aces-Fever Game 5 tonight!

The MLB postseason is here! The Red Sox play the Yankees, the Mets Metsed themselves, and money can’t solve all your problems (unless you’re moving). Fans at the Ryder Cup need to be better after they threw beer at golfer Rory McIlroy’s wife. Madeline’s Georgia Dawgs broke her heart by losing to Alabama at home. We need more drama surrounding Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin’s daughter dating an LSU star. And, finally, Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson went to Nantucket during football season.

The Sports Gossip Show officially turns one today, so Madeline and Charlotte get a little sentimental looking back at a crazy 12 months since they started this show in Charlotte’s apartment. Thank you so much to everyone who’s listened, watched, and subscribed, to The Athletic for bringing SGS on board, and to the husbands of the show — the gals couldn’t have done it without any of you.

Madeline and Charlotte are back with a jam-packed show! Some quick hits from Europe: Harry Styles ran the Berlin marathon very quickly under a weird pseudonym, and F1 drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz drove a van to Monaco after their flight was delayed. 

Then, the thing everyone wants to know about: Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin’s daughter hard-launched her relationship with LSU player Whit Weeks and it’s mind game city. The gals didn’t do so well in their NFL Week 3 vibes-based picks, the Chiefs’ vibes are still not great, and the Giants may be a toxic workplace given the success of Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley outside of the organization. 

Aces star A’ja Wilson won MVP for the fourth time and basketball stars Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd remain adorable (don’t worry, full WNBA playoff episode is dropping Thursday). There is a lot of golf drama having to do with the Ryder Cup — it involves “the purity of the game” and Bryson DeChambeau vs. Rory McIlroy….again. The gals find out in real time that the NY Liberty fired head coach Sandy Brondello a year after she won a championship?????

Jordon Hudson is still on the field at UNC, the Mariners had a curse lifted by a witch on Etsy, and tennis star Felix Auger-Aliassime got married and the flowers weren’t compressed!!!!

The gals discuss the alleged love triangle between tennis stars Jannick Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Brooks Nader — is it real, or is Nader just promoting her new reality show? Jordon Hudson was going to appear on Dancing with the Stars, but now she isn’t, and it’s not totally surprising. Snowboarder Shaun White and actress Nina Dobrev broke off their engagement and SGS coins the term “WAG-washing.”
