  • E 59: Genomics? What is the Role of Acupuncture and Naturopath in Cancer? Ralph Esposito ND
Dr. Ralph Esposito, ND talks to Dr Trosclair on A Doctors Perspective Podcast
Nutrition, Herbs, Genomics, Acupuncture, Men’s Health - Urology, Cancer and Hormones, Research Driven- not your typical Doctor of Naturopath. He has written book chapters, done research and is Certified Functional Medicine . Dr Ralph Esposito ND
Dr. Esposito went to New York University in the premed track and realized that DO and MD don’t learn enough of the natural integrative medicine stuff which is what he wanted to really learn since 17 years old. He choose the road less traveled and pursued the Naturopathic Doctor program. While attending his Naturopathic Physician school, he opted to also got his Masters in Acupuncture.
How did he go from being so interested in hormone therapy to focusing more on urology and other men health topics? Of course he has come full circle and has found his way back to treating hormones.
Major classification: did you know there is a difference between Naturopathic Physician and Doctor of Naturopath?
We hear the term Functional Medicine thrown around and I really like his definition. More of an Organized evidence based approach to naturopathic medicine. Looking at the root cause of your issue so we aren’t just supplementing a natural remedy for a prescription based remedy.
Dr. Ralph does the history and the blood work to discover where the aberrations of function are in molecular pathways, biochemistry, pathophysiology, and anatomy.
Listen Up for the Top 3 Men’s Conditions he treats. Erectile Dysfunction, Low Testosterone, Prostate Issues. We dig into the prostate cancer aspect ( and breast cancer) since they are both largely hormonal.
Dr. Carey Jones is the medical director of DUTCH Labs- urinary hormone testing - is a great person to follow.
When looking at his acupuncture and herb degree, we discuss what and why are these types of doctors evaluating when feeling the pulse and looking at your tongue? Acupuncture can be used for prostate pain, erectile dysfunction and more symptoms.
If you ever seen or smelled MOXA burning on acupuncture needle… now you can find out what that is all about. Spoiler- but you will want the explanation- when you burn MOXA it changes the frequency of the needle to the wavelength and frequency of the cell, therefore it can …. Listen to here more. Also what is Golden Moxa and Rice Moxa?
How does genetics, Genomics, SNP (single neuropeptide polymorphism) play into his treatment protocols and determine what to recommend? MTHFR or COMT or epigenome gene mutation does not mean you will have XYZ disease… the science just is not yet there.
Go to conferences and meet new people, network because it is super important. People don’t like to be sold and the only thing you really can sell- is yourself.
Without giving it away, he has some lofty goals that correlate to his book chapter writing and research work.
Eat well, sleep well, meditate, self care daily and weekly.
Be intentional with your loved ones and set up time expectations. Also keep a gratitude journal at night + read it in the morning.

  • E 58: Facial Acupuncture Professor Michelle Gellis Gives a Rare Interview
Michelle Gellis, LAcMAc DiplAc talks to Dr Trosclair on A Doctors Perspective Podcast
Are you ready to be intrigued with the benefits of Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture by long time acupuncturist professor Michelle Gellis? Intradermal needles, collagen rejuvenation, whole body effects-her classes and patient stories will get you motivated to learn more.
Professor Michelle Gellis, LAcMAc DiplAc is one of very few cosmetic acupuncturist certified by the American Acupuncture Council to teach facial acupuncture. She has classes on not only Facial Acupuncture but also Treating Neuromuscular Facial Conditions and an open online class (not just acupuncturists allowed) on Facial GuaSha and Cupping.
She has been published in the Journal Of Chinese Medicine, edited a chapter in the Acupuncture Desk Reference, as well as being published in multiple publication like Acupuncture Today and Elephant Journal.
Facial class: focus on learning body points and how that affects the skin, organ systems that affect the face, acupuncture points on the face and which to use.
Did you know facial requires a special certification and a special rider on your insurance malpractice? She lists off conditions that people can have that would be contraindicated for facial needles. Also, does proactive cosmetic acupuncture care help to not need the “Botox” and facelifts later in life to begin with?
An amazing success story of acupuncture for her own 6 week old son and how that was the catalyst for her discovering this ancient art of healing.
We don’t go too much into it, but she is a 5 element acupuncturist vs a Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncturist. Her deep passion and what she teaches courses in, is facial acupuncture since 2005. Sure she specializes in beautification points of the face, but she gives a more nuanced explanation on how she has to consider organ function and points outside of the face to truly get noticeable and long lasting results.
Changing the color, texture, tone, removing wrinkles and even helping with neurological issues of the face are all aspects that she sees positive changes in clients. What I thought was wild, you can actually purposely needle under facial muscles to get your desired outcomes.
Learn some basic signs that your organs are unhealthy and contributing to your skin issues.
With so many points and schools of thought, why do some acupuncturist pick certain points over others?
Should you discount some of your services when first starting out or charge what you are worth. We had a good discussion on marketing and prices that should not be missed. … around minute 24. Would you go to your MD and ask for a deal with your gall bladder surgery?
People will put as high of a value on you, as you put on yourself. If your prices are too low, the patient may say, “Why so low?” Don’t diminish the profession by offering the farm on coupon sites.
She double dips- she gets tired of the winter, so she decided to take her teaching schedule to areas of the country that she wants to visit: vacation and a work weekend … classic!

Dr Todd Pickman DC talks to Dr Trosclair on A Doctors Perspective Podcast
There are 7 core full body functional movements that you should be able to perform. Learn his system, Move Well Rehab, to evaluate, treat and expand your practice. Later in the podcast he gives 2 super new marketing tips you haven’t heard before.
From Gonstead (a more adjustment only type of clinic) to Chiro Bio Physics CBP (which deals with  Segment Dysfunction, Posture, Movement, and  Corrective Curve Rehab) how did he become such a mix-tor and end up developing a rehab program.
He still believes in the CBP system of  spinal biomechanics and coupling patterns and posture correction.
He wrote a book " move well "outlining the whole system and you can get it here www.movewellsecrets.com for free + shipping.
A creator at heart, he isn’t trying to replace other techniques out there that restore posture, but he did improve and create his own curve restoration device. www.movewellrehab.com/awesome
If people keep asking you how you do something, maybe its time to create a program for them.  Reach more people and actually charge for your time.
What does he mean by functional movement? Ch 2 of his book and in first 15 minutes he answers it.  You can also check out Functionalmovement.com because it is the umbrella inventors of the “functional movement” movement.
What are the 7 core functional movement patterns?  If you can’t do these 7 full body movements it can be from a muscular, joint or brain problem.
A question everyone has when looking to implement a rehab program: how much space do I need, what equipment do I have to purchase and can staff supervise or implement the protocols too?
What is a main benefit of working in someone else's office when first graduated?
How to handle a negative online review?
Is handing out a business card still valuable?  What is a funnel? How to talk to someone at the grocery line that actually allows you to market to them later?  His tip here is hugely valuable.
Marketing people he likes: Reach out to Shawn Andrews, Billy Sticker   , Chris Burfield or Chad Woolner (chirofunnel podcast) for funnel marketing.   Jeff Langmaid has a great MD DC program.

  • E 56 Holistic Nutritionist and Shared Space with Dr. Brian Stanton DC
Dr. Brian Stanton DC talks to Dr. Justin Trosclair, DC on A Doctor's Perspective Podcast.
Advice on what type of location is best for a new doctor, medi spa, share space or what? How does he define holistic nutrition or functional medicine in his clinic. Here some great success stories that might make you reconsider what supplement line you recommend.

What are his 3 top reasons to pick a chiropractic school (and probably any professional school) ? Hint: well rounded and board pass-ability.
His advice on starting a practice versus working under someone’s wing is spot on as well as the suggestion to keep overhead low by working in someone else’s office but being completely independent of that doctor.  Should you work out of another chiropractor’s clinic, medi- spa setting or even a physical therapists clinic when first starting out?  What’s the advantages of having many docs in the same office?
Do you personally need to own the x-ray machine, can a medi-spa setting be profitable and can it be mutually beneficial for everyone involved?
Dr. Stanton has taken extensive courses in functional nutrition and has turned that into a major niche in his practice.  Applied Clinical Nutrition Certification.  He likes to call him self a Holistic Nutritionist as well as the doctor of chiropractic.  Dr. Brian briefly touches on how so many chiros focus on structure only but that was only 1/3rd of D.D.’s original premise.
How much of a role does environment and pesticides and pollution play a role in our overall health and nutrition?  What does he do to remedy these outside factors?
Hear an amazing story about the effects of electro-magnetic fields on the body. Min 11 or 12.
Dr. John Brimhall was one of us functional medicine mentors and he recommends Total Shield, multipolar magnets, or Nikon products from Japan to help counteract the electro-magnetic radiation from long airplane rides. brimhallwellness.com
Give the Patient what they Want, but also Educate them on what They Need.
Functional Medicine is thrown around a lot these days, so take a listen for his take on the practice and how he manages patients under this functional medicine umbrella term.
What I like about Dr. Brian is that he doesn’t blindly recommend supplements.  He takes the time to order lab tests to find out what is going on and then recommends products based on their particular needs.
What do you do when you know the patient should get off dairy to help with sinus and other issues but they refuse to do it?
He has a internal referral system and a social media presence.  Going Live on Facebook for Q&A does well.
One of his go to foundation products is ID Life which partnered with the Doctor Only Brand Zymogen as their science board.  ID life has an in-depth questionnaire to help ascertain what you personally need.  Around minute 30 he talks about these details.
