Yes, you’re right. The preferred spelling of dumbbell is with two “b”s, but only as it applies to the weight-training apparatus. The Dumbells above, with one “b” aren’t weightlifters, but Capt. M. W. Plunkett’s Dumbells musical troupe. You’ll find out all about them and hear three numbers presented in their 1920s shows in the first segment of this week’s edition of Rapidly Rotating Records. With The Masters just concluded we’ll hit the links and celebrate Nat Osborne’s birthday. We’ll also have a two-segment vocabulary lesson, not about specific words, but explaining two different but related figures of speech with musical examples.
