  • Timberley Gray - Finding God's Strength Through Chronic Illness

In today's show, Tammy sits down with Timberley Gray from Living Our Priorities as she shares her journey through chronic illness and how she's learned to find strength from God through it.

Timberley tells us how she went from doctor to doctor, including one who told her it was all in her head. However, after seeking God's guidance, He led her to a rheumatologist that not only took the time to find out what was going on, but has been integral in her care since.

In fact, she says, "I'm so grateful that I kept seeking God, because if I had listened to that one doctor, I probably wouldn't be here today."

She explains what she does when she isn't feeling well; and how important maintaining a schedule, spending time with God and sowing into herself is for her overall health.

Timberley gives us some practical things we can do as chronic illness warriors to determine what health plan and medications are best for our own personal health.

I also share with her some of the things she did that I thought were crazy when she told me, but have turned out to be so important and therapeutic in my own daily health.

We have a lot of laughs in this episode, as Timberley dishes out some truth bombs and some practical things we chronic illness warriors can do to help us feel better, as well as, gather our strength and guidance from God.

So grab your favorite beverage, that basket of clothes that needs folding, or turn up the volume on your morning commute and listen to this week's episode, Finding God's Strength Through Chronic Illness.

  • Keith Rotzoll - When A Chronic Illness Rocks Your Marriage

In today's show, Keith and Tammy Rotzoll sit down and share their journey through chronic illness and how it rocked their marriage.

Keith and I could write a book titled, "What Not to do When Diagnosed with a Chronic Illness."

To say we did everything wrong, is an understatement.

Keith shares his anger and how even when he knew I couldn't control the migraines, he still harbored a lot of resentment.

His biggest source of stress was regarding our finances. He walked around in a constant state of worry over how we'd pay our bills.

So after I had kept our bleak financial situation from him, we were forced to come together and make some big cuts in our budget which completely turned the tables for us.

Keith and I share when we'd let each other down and how although we wanted the same thing, we were walking on two very different paths to get there.

It's been a long, difficult road for us, but we can look back and see how God brought us through it. We've learned that when we are obedient to God's will for us, He will show up and redeem, renew and restore.

So grab your favorite beverage, that basket of clothes that needs folding, or turn up the volume on your morning commute and listen to this week's episode, Self-Care According to the Bible.

  • Lisa Kimrey - Self Care According to the Bible

In today's show, Lisa shares how after leaving her job as an RN and becoming a stay-at-home mom, she found herself exhausted with no idea what the future held.

After months of little sleep with her colicky newborn, she joined the local gym, dropped her little girl off at the daycare and took to running on the track.

Lisa recalls the months of running and fervently praying for God to give her a passion again.

She shares how hard the silence was, but that she continued to press on in her prayers. She remembers sobbing as she ran, unsure where God was leading her, until one day He revealed His plan for her life.

And it was there, on that gym track where her online ministry and the pages of her book, The Self-Care Impact, were born.

In today's conversation, Lisa shares the #1 thing we can do when it comes to our self-care (and it only takes a few minutes!)

I love how Lisa recalls that God doesn't need us to be whole and healed to go to Him, but rather, He'll meet us right in the beautiful messes of our life!

You're going to love my conversation with Lisa today as she shares her best, easy to implement self-care strategy that works when we're in even the most difficult seasons in our life.

So grab your favorite beverage, that basket of clothes that needs folding, or turn up the volume on your morning commute and listen to this week's episode, Self-Care According to the Bible.

  • Barb Miller - Hope And Healing After Abortion

In Episode #17 of a Faithful God Podcast, Tammy sits down with guest, Barb Miller from Hard Things of Faith, as shares her journey of finding hope and healing after she had an abortion at age 19.

When she was five years old, her father told her she'd be 19, knocked up and no good.

So when Barb found herself pregnant at 19, she felt she had no choice but to abort her baby.

Barb shares that though her boyfriend wanted to keep the baby and marry her, she knew her father would never let her live it down.

Barb tells us that she believed she was going to hell and there was no way God would ever forgive or love her after what she'd done.

Though the abuse Barb suffered from her father didn't end until the day he died, she found true healing when she found herself in front of a pastor who showed her that there was nothing in her life that would ever keep her from God's unconditional love.

Barb shares her hard, but beautiful story of redemption and renewal and what she's learned along the way.

If you're struggling with post-abortive grief, I want you to know there is hope!

Nothing you've done can keep you away from His unconditional love for you. I encourage you to reach out to Barb and find a program in your area to begin your journey of healing.

Because, my friend, you deserve healing!

As you listen to today's show, I want to encourage you that no matter what you believe regarding abortion, you choose to walk in love.

One of my favorite quotes is,

You don't have to think the same, you just have to love the same.

    Elisabeth Hasselbeck

And as you listen to today's show, my prayer is that no matter what you believe, you choose to point others to God by walking alongside your friends and family and just "be Jesus to them."

  • Pam Stahl - Finding Happiness After Depression

In today's show, Pam shares her journey through depression and how she learned to enjoy life again.

She takes us back to growing up in a strict home where she was not allowed to cry or share any kind of emotion. We talk about growing up in a generation that taught us to keep quiet about any kind of trouble in the house and always portray and stable, happy home.

Pam shares how six weeks after the birth of her third child, she found herself at the kitchen counter, stirring oatmeal and crying. After a visit to her gynecologist and a therapist, she was diagnosed with postpartum depression, given medication and sent home.

When after a time the meds quit working, Pam sought a support group where she was able to uncover the effects she felt from a strict upbringing.

As Pam states, this wasn't a big traumatic event, but rather an upbringing that just didn't allow her to share her feelings. So as most of us do when we feel pain (and because as children, we know no differently), her body protected her by stuffing it and hiding it deep inside.

But as pain and trauma often does, it presented itself in the form of depression later in Pam's life.

Pam shares her hard, but beautiful story of redemption and renewal and what she's learned from her childhood. She shares how it changed her as both a parent and a child, and gives us practical advice on how to walk this out.

Whether you're suffering from depression yourself, feel like you've failed your children or you're walking alongside someone who is suffering, you're going to love my conversation with Pam today.

So grab your favorite beverage, that basket of clothes that needs folding, or turn up the volume on your morning commute and listen to this week's show, Finding Happiness After Depression.

  • Tina Pershing - Overcoming Addiction

In today's show, Tina shares her journey through alcoholism and the fight to save her family and her marriage.

She takes us back to growing up in California, learning that her father died from suicide and the affect it had on her life.

Tina shares the brokenness of losing her job and marriage to alcoholism. I love the incredible story of how God had put someone in her life years earlier who became the turning point in her recovery.

Friend, as difficult as Tina's story is, it's also a beautiful story of redemption and forgiveness. It's a story that shows how even in the brokenness, God will move mountains when we choose to follow where He leads.

Tina tells us that she had God-sized expectations for her husband and how everything changed when she discovered that no one but God could fulfill them.

Although the alcoholism destroyed her marriage, Tina found that when she finally surrendered to God, He performed a true miracle out of the hardest, most painful time in her life.

She takes us back to that fateful night when she woke up to find her husband's breathing irregular. She describes the emotion of performing CPR and "blowing breath into him" to try to save his life.

Lisa tells us what it was like to hear those dreaded words from the doctor, "we did everything we could." She describes how even in the midst of it all, she could still see God's hand in it, guiding them through and providing provisions they could've never expected.

  • Sarah Robinson - Help Me God, I Want to Die

In episode #13 of A Faithful God Podcast, Tammy sits down with Sarah Robinson from Beautiful Between.

In today's show, Sarah shares her journey with severe depression, self-harm and suicidal thoughts.

She describes the pain from images of self-harm and suicide that run through her head. We talk about the loneliness depression brings, even when surrounded by people who love you.

Sarah shares how on one particular night when she found herself on a friend's doorstep, their unconditional love changed the way she thought about God's love for her.

Though Sarah has had a relationship with God for a very long time, she was certain He could never love a person as broken as her.

Sarah shares valuable tips to help those suffering from depression, as well as how we can help others walk through this. She shows us how we can take the shame out of depression.

I love how honest Sarah is and her willingness to allow God to use her story to help and encourage others experiencing severe depression and suicidal thoughts.

I recently learned some frightening statistics. Every year, 800,000 people die in the world from suicide. That's one person every 40 seconds!

It breaks my heart and I believe when we strive to take the shame out of depression, we can better reach those who are suffering.

My hope and prayer is that whether you're suffering from depression yourself, or you're walking alongside someone who is, you'll glean some important, valuable information from this episode.

My hope is that we reach everyone who needs help and let them know that they matter and are important to us.

And most of all, I want everyone suffering from depression to know that they're important to God!

"So often, all it takes to save a life is being Jesus to us. Depressed and suicidal people just need you to enter the dark and sit there with us, your loved unchanged."

"75% of people who suffer from depression have experienced clinically significant trauma."

"If my thoughts don't have the chance to grow in secrecy, they lose a lot of their power."

"I've learned that I can have this really beautiful, thriving, joy-filled life and deal with really severe depression at the same time."

I love how honest Christina is and her willingness to allow God to use her story to help and encourage others going through grief.

"I remember just screaming at the devil and telling him, no, he was not going to win this battle."

"When I was able to forgive them, that's when I started to heal."

"Before the accident, I lived to serve my husband, and my children and my job. After his accident and his death, I learned to serve God."

"We just have to learn to be patient and be still to hear God talking to us."

"He brings those trials to refine us and draw us closer to Him."
