  • Kelly Johnston - Holding Onto God In Difficult Times

In episode #10 of A Faithful God Podcast, Tammy sits down with long time friend, Kelly Johnston.

In today's show, Kelly and I talk parenting, marriage and holding onto God even when we don't understand why things are happening.

Kelly shares three different times that God made himself apparent in her life and how being obedient to what He's asked her to do, though at times it's been difficult, she hasn't regretted a single moment of trusting in Him.

You are going to love my conversation with Kelly. Her love for Jesus is contagious and she shares so much biblical wisdom with us. In fact, you may want just want to grab a pen and some paper and take a few notes!

    Favorite quotes from Kelly today:

"I just think that in our world, we've got to raise our children to be givers."

"We've got to raise children to be successful adults."

"No life goes without hurdles, and you need to have something to hold onto."

  • Quina Porter - Where Is God In My Bipolar

In today's show, I sit down with Quina Porter as she shares her journey through divorce, bipolar disorder, and what it was like to have suicidal thoughts.

Quina shares how shortly after being married, she knew something was wrong; but because she believes so fully in the sanctification of marriage, she leaned into God to do what she could to make it work.

She tells us how after being diagnosed with depression, she was prescribed a combination of medications that unbeknownst to her, were only supposed to be taken temporarily. Quina fell into a depression so deep, thoughts of suicide began to creep in, while her friends and family came together to be on suicide watch.

Quina remembers how angry she was at God that she didn't get to choose whether or not she existed. She states that the only thing that kept her from taking her life, is that she didn't want her family and husband to have to deal with what she did, especially if she didn't succeed.

She shares what a relief it was to finally receive a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. She felt validated for the first time in her life, and it was in this time that she finally began to heal.

You're going to love my conversation with Quina as she shares how even in the pain, she could hear God asking, "Do you trust me?"

I love that there is no shame in her diagnosis (nor should there be) and how Quina has allowed God to use her story to encourage others in a time when they feel all hope is lost.

It's been a pleasure getting to know her and I have no doubt you're going to love her just as much as I do!

    Favorite quotes from the podcast

"When you are suicidal and don't realize it, the thoughts are so slippery. They just slide right by and it's just enough that you go, 'huh, that's an option?"

"I would have had to remember that I squandered a gift of life."

"This experience told me what kind of person I am and how valued I was because of how many people came to help me."

"I never knew that I could be loved like this."

"Faith and fear can not exist at the same time, in the same place."

  • Tammy Rotzoll - Trusting God Through Chronic Illness

We're turning the tables in episode #8 of A Faithful God Podcast as my friend and life accountability partner, Timberley Gray of Living Our Priorities, asks me the hard questions about trusting God through a chronic illness.

In today's show, I share my difficult journey through a chronic illness and the pain and hurt it left in its path.

I discuss how my husband and I were not on the same page and couldn't agree on the best way to walk it out. Instead of working together to make this new life work, we wound up on opposite sides of the road, fighting against each other.

I no longer recognized the person I'd become and felt the searing pain of being a person that could no longer be relied on.

I open up about my rebellion against God when it came to our finances, how I chose to deal with it and what it looks like since He forced me to take action and come together as husband and wife. (If only I'd listened to God sooner!)

My walk through this chronic illness has been anything but perfect, but through it all, I've learned to lean into God and trust Him to supply my every emotional and physical need.

And that's when I finally began to feel a peace that no circumstance could ever take away!

Join Timberley and I as we talk about the hard lessons in learning how to trust and serve God through a chronic illness.

    Favorite quotes from the podcast

"I thought I was protecting my husband from more stress, but now I see it was just another excuse to not deal with the pain"

"Don't pray and tell God how to do his job."

"We don't realize God is all we need until God is all we have."

"There is no testimony without a test."

  • Spencer Rotzoll - Keeping Your Faith Through Disappointment

In today's episode, I sit down with one of my favorite people in the world, my youngest, Spencer Rotzoll, as we share his journey through trusting God in disappointment.

After being told he'd never play football again, Spencer knew that no matter what happened, God had a plan for his life.

He shares how after making a bad decision from a night of "fun," God used the time to help him mature and put Spencer back on track.

Part of Spencer's journey included being diagnosed with ADHD.

He shares what life was like for him before his diagnosis and the two things he found that helped him focus and start living life with purpose and drive. In fact, in the episode, he states that after applying these two things, "I started doing better in every area of my life!"

And spoiler alert!!! Spencer shares a secret that he had never told my husband and I. I have to admit, I needed a moment to process that one!

  • Jennifer Lane - Coping With The Cancer Diagnosis of a Loved One

In episode 5 of A Faithful God Podcast, I sit down with friend, Jennifer Lane from The Cancer Bomb, to share her story of how cancer exploded into her family.

In just four short years, Jennifer had seven family members diagnosed with cancer, some who've gone home to be with the Lord, and others who have made it through and are cancer free.

Jennifer shares that when her father was diagnosed, they made a bucket list and were able to cross everything off that list and even went on to complete a second one before she lost her father!

I'm grateful to Jennifer for her vulnerability and honesty and how she found that through it all, her relationship with God grew stronger.

When she and her family were looking for resources to help them navigate all the doctor's visits, there was nothing to be found, so she set out to create a binder that would help patients and families beat the overwhelm of cancer.
