Welcome to Facing it, we’re so glad you’re here!
On today’s episode we had the great privilege of speaking with Tim Ferraro. Tim is the General Manager of the Soil Conservation Service, and has called Dubbo in Central Western NSW his home for the past 20 years.
In this episode, Tim talks about his lived experience and a childhood witnessing his father’s significant mental ill-health episodes. Tim was brilliantly candid with us about how this impacted his youth, and how it gave him strength to seek help when he found himself experiencing mental ill-health in his adult life.
Tim tells us about the support he found around him in dark times, and how the deep and meaningful conversations with friends have continued to give him strength and support when he needs it most. Tim also talks about how his lived experience has informed his passion for workplace mental health and ensuring that employees feel that they are supported and able to look after their mental health in the same way they look after their physical health.
In this episode we speak about depression and anxiety, if you or someone you know needs assistance please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
Tim described aspects of rural living and mental health in such a beautiful way, giving us insights into those who are typically generalised as ‘not great’ at talking about mental ill health and how they are actually breaking down barriers in rural communities. We gained so many leadership insights from Tim, we hope you can too.
Enjoy!
