This week on the podcast we go over the first part of the book of Matthew. Matthew is one of the four gospels, which recounts Jesus' birth all the way up to his death and resurrection.
This section recounts so many instrumental stories that happened between Jesus' birth and early ministry. He is lied to and tempted by the devil in the wilderness (who quotes scripture by the way... important to know your Bible and the context!), gives the famous Sermon on the Mount, and travels around healing many people.
Jesus makes waves right from the beginning, flipping conventional wisdom on its head. Instead of an eye for an eye, Jesus commands us to turn the other cheek. Instead of hating your enemy, we are called to love our enemy. Instead of storing up treasures on earth, we are commanded to store up treasures in heaven.
Jesus is becoming more and more of a problem for the Pharisees and Sadducees, who accuse him of breaking Sabbath and call him the Prince of Demons. This is a powerful section that really shows us the character of Jesus.
