Rapidly Rotating Records

A P.D.Q. Edition of RRR #1229 February 4, 2024

Listen Later

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t not tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

Do you know who this fellow is? He’s composer and musicologist Peter Schickele and discoverer of P. D. Q. Bach, “the oddest of Johann Sebastian Bach’s 20-odd children.” I’ve been a fan of Professor Schickele and of P. D. Q. Bach ever since high school. and I was greatly saddened last month upon his death, even though his primary focus was not music of the 1920s and ’30s, the first segment is dedicated to him and has a connection to a piece from 1925. If you are unfamiliar with Peter Schickele and/or P/ D/ Q/ Bach, I encourage you to visit the website, www.schickele.com and check out the many youtube videos of their music. In other segments, we’ll make hay, celebrate Fritz Kreisler’s birthday and have another episode of “One Thing In Common.” There’s lots of great music and interesting information, so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era. Click on the player above to listen streaming online and/or download for listening at your convenience.

THANK YOU FOR LISTENING!
