Most of the jobs that exist today either won't be around in 20 years or will be fundamentally different. That's why it's important to remain adaptable. How does one do that? Rarely, if at all, is life all good or all bad. It's a combination of the two. As humans, or at least I want to view the world more simply. As good and bad, black and white, etc. But we must embrace the duality of life. It is in these nuanced details of the grey areas that you discover the beauty of life. In this edition of my vlog, I primarily discuss editing the proof of concept I recently shot and how I'm preparing it to go into the VFX phase. Since it's a purely green screen shoot, I highlight some of the difficulties of cutting it together and strategies I used to make sure my timing was correct. I then overview where I'm at with the VFX and provide a timeline moving forward. I find that the voices in my head are too critical when I'm trying to be creative. I need them to not judge my work just yet so I can at least get a draft out. So it begs the question, how does one quiet those voices? ADR is a technique used to give your film clean audio if the sound recorded on the day wasn't good enough (planes overhead, rain, static interference and other such noises). The problem is ADR gets recorded months after production in a studio. The performer has to get back into character and even then, the soundscape of their voice isn't always 100% matching to how it was on set. So how do you get better matching ADR in terms of performance and reverb? Record ADR on set! How you might be thinking. Well, the actors are in a natural rhythm anyway, so take them aside and have them run the performance just for audio purposes. It won't necessarily match the timing of their past stuff but it'll be close enough where most times you and nudge it and it'll match their tone and certainly the space better than studio ADR could. Besides, what have you got to lose? If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. This is what I explore in this episode.
