The theme for this year’s International Women's Day is #Embrace Equity. Around the world, people are having meaningful conversations about why equal opportunities aren't enough, and why equal isn't always fair. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action. If we truly believe in, value, and #Embrace Equity, then women are more likely to have access to what's required to succeed. What does it take to be an LGBTQ+ Ally? Have you got what it takes? To be an LGBT ally is easy. If you agree in equality and fair treatment in society, of people who identify as LGBTQ+, then already you are an ally. As you sit and listen to this episode you should feel the sense of camaraderie that could be yours. In today’s episode, we talk to David Bolton the LGBTQ+ allies chair, and colleague Maggie Miller, who both work in the School of Management here at Swansea University.

But if you’re going to transform yourself from an armchair supporter to an engaged LGBTQ ally you should consider joining the group and seeing what you can to be more actively supportive of our students and staff from the LGBTQ+ community.

There are a number of Support Services at Swansea University who strive to make our student’s experience a inclusive and rewarding one. There is also another less formal group who dedicate their time to promote inclusive behaviour and attitudes amongst Professional Services staff and service users and to create a positive and inclusive learning environment in libraries and other university services. The Inclusive Services Group supports the University in its objective to realise the potential of all students and staff whatever their protected characteristic (age, sex, race, gender reassignment, disability, sexual orientation, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion and belief). In this episode Mandy and Pamela talk to the group’s chair Philippa Price and the secretary Tina Webber, to learn more about some of the projects that the group have been involved with recently.
