Episode 14: The Songbird & The Heart of Stone- Parts 1 & 2

In Songbird Parts 1 and 2, we follow Mische, a fallen priestess of the sun god Atroxus, now a vampire caught between faith and survival. Betrayed, stripped of her fire magic, and imprisoned for killing the Shadowborn Prince who turned her, Mische is bound to Asar, a haunted necromancer prince. Together, they descend into the perilous underworld, facing wraiths, beasts, and crumbling wards, while secretly tasked by Atroxus to recover relics that could resurrect the forgotten god Alarus—only to kill him afterward. Every step forces Mische to confront her fractured loyalties, her dangerous Shadowborn powers, and a forbidden bond with Asar, setting the stage for betrayal, sacrifice, and a war between gods and mortals.

In this episode of A Pod of Wings and Filth, we dive into Parts Three, Four, and Five of The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent.
We follow Oraya and Raihn into the heart of Vincent’s haunted past, where vampire children serve, secrets are revealed, and Oraya’s cousin turns out to be a nightmare in a decaying castle. Then it’s off to Sivrinaj for nobles, manipulation, and a doomed wedding. We hit emotional gut punches, endure sewer siestas, and experience a steamy hot spring break before a devastating battle with a god-blooded enemy leaves Oraya near death (again), and Raihn running to her last hope: family.
