— The person you are destined to become is the one you choose to be.
Chris was ten years old. He had no good looks, a loving family, or a bright future. While he wasn't able to create a life for himself, he did have the love of Danielle, who was the most beautiful girl he had ever known. He moved to Michigan with his mother to escape his abusive father. He was only able to leave Danielle with half of a heart-shaped pendant and a promise to one day return. To have any chance of getting her back, he had to end over one hundred years of abuse in his family, something his family claimed he was destined to carry on. Destiny Lives on Fairhaven Street is a touching multi-award-winning memoir from author C.J. Hudson of his eight-year journey of preparation to return to the love of his life. Written to his twin sons, his story is a testament to the power of devotion and proof that the life you've always wanted is possible if you never give up.
Valeria interviews C.J. Hudson — the author of "Destiny Lives on Fairhaven Street."
With a shaved head and a salt and pepper beard stacked atop a barrel-chested frame, C.J. Hudson is a well-disguised hopeless romantic. One would not see him as the type of person expected to do something as bold as remain celibate his entire young adulthood for his first love. One would not confuse him for a man who would return to her to win her back. Yet that is exactly what the driven Disabled Navy Veteran did. Residing in Pflugerville, Texas, he enjoys the result of his journey in the form of a successful marriage and twin sons.

— "It's liberating when you finally realize no one is coming for you. No lover, no parent, no friend can save you from the suffering of your mind. Why? Because you created all of them to support you on your journey of awakening. That's the mind mess we all need to work through. The sooner you can laugh about it, the faster you can overcome the insanity by unraveling the mind to unveil the illusions and know the truth of who you really are."
Valeria interviews Beth Bell — the author of "Angels, Herpes and Psychedelics: Unraveling the Mind to Unveil Illusions."
Beth Bell's soul journey has taken her around the world to live, starting with humble beginnings in North Dakota, to California, New York City, Singapore, India, Bali, and now back in California. She spent 15-plus years in strategic brand management in the pharmaceutical industry, before becoming an entrepreneur and developing inspirational products, including a silver jewelry line for both eCommerce and a retail shop in Bali. She currently produces and co-hosts the Psychedelic Sages podcast and is an advisor to CEOs and psychedelic pharmaceutical companies. Her new book, Angels, Herpes and Psychedelics, shares her journey of awakening and provides a spiritual toolbox others can learn from.

— Sometimes negative, anxious or worried thoughts seem to take on a life of their own. Talking with a therapist can help you identify the origins of your anxiety. Once you know why your mind works the way it does you can take steps to rewire your brain. Yes, it is possible to rewire your brain! Both Mindfulness techniques and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy show positive changes in the brain during brain scans. Negative emotions, thoughts and body sensations are often caused by unprocessed memories stored in the brain. By processing distressing life events and learning tools and skills to help manage stress and anxiety you can "let it go!"
Valeria interviews Andrea Harbeck — she is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice in Denver, Colorado. She has been an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist for over 10 years.
Andrea utilizes EMDR to help people overcome distressing, stressful or traumatic experiences. Andrea works with adults who experience anxiety and stress and who have experienced traumatic events in their life. Andrea also works with medical professionals who experience burn out and vicarious trauma. Andrea also works with young adults, helping them identify their place in the world. Andrea enjoys working with gifted adults as well. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, Andrea worked as a theatre director, producer, and occasional playwright. — People often wish to seek answers in therapy - whether to ask questions about mental health, life, relationships, love, or about themselves. Some ask out of uncertainty; others, out of curiosity. What about the psychotherapists themselves? How would they answer questions for themselves if they become the interviewee? In therapy, it is common for therapists to withhold personal information from the clients to maintain professional boundaries and to maintain the treatment focus on the client's needs and goals; however, self-disclosure done appropriately can foster empathy, develop rapport, and build trust. Many people believe that, because a psychotherapist's role is to provide emotional support and guidance, they should be emotionally uninvolved to remain unbiased and impartial in the therapeutic process to facilitate clients who open up bravely about their own insecurities and vulnerabilities. Although a helping professional should strive to be non-judgmental and respectful of boundaries, their emotional investment in sessions is an honest indication of the fact that they, too, are humans who have feelings and emotions that allow them to understand and empathize with a client's struggles. One psychotherapist who believes in the benefits of such deliberate self-disclosure tells all and shares some vulnerable memories and moments of her own to answer some of the most intimate questions about her views on life and her role as a helping professional. To help you connect with a psychotherapist up close and personal, listen to how a Vancouver-based psychotherapist, Julie Chang, responds to some of the questions about life, happiness, and love that you may also have for yourself. Perhaps you'll be amused. Perhaps you'll feel a sense of similarity. Or, perhaps you'll be inspired to engage in your own self-exploration to reflect on your values and who you are as a person of worth.
Valeria Teles interviews Julie Chang — She is Vancouver-Based Mental-Health Clinician And Speaker
Julie is a practitioner of mental health located in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. She has Master's Degrees in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Counselling and is currently finishing her doctoral degree in clinical psychology. In addition to professional training and experiences in psychotherapy and treatment, clinical counselling, behavioral intervention, and neuropsychological assessments, Julie also has a background in psychological research at the doctoral level and uses the empirical insights gained from previous studies to supplement her current clinical practice, making her unique as a practitioner of both clinical-scientist and scientist-practitioner models.
As an advocate of positive psychology who understands that mental health is more than the absence of illness, Julie focuses on building success and helping clients flourish rather than merely reducing distress. She believes in a world where people achieve flourishing mental health. To do so, she is currently helping individuals one at a time to gain more control of their lives and to become versions of themselves they envision. What makes her different from other providers of mental-health services are three core features:
— Julie strives to motivate her clients to learn the materials they work on in sessions actively, to enhance the awareness of psychology perspectives and concepts in their daily lives, and to relish in the experience while applying them in the real world.
— She encourages clients to share their psychological burden with her and to trust her to be there for them every step of the way.
— She grows and learns with her clients: Sometimes she is in a guiding role one step ahead, sometimes she is a partner walking together at the same pace, and sometimes she follows the lead of the one she works with to hear and observe what they want to share.
Julie's professional goal has always been to meet clients where they are and to nourish them therapeutically to bring felicity (back) into their lives while enjoying the process along the way. She often finds herself smiling and laughing rather than emotionally burnt out after what many would consider to be a long day's worth of sessions and attributes it to her enjoyment of spending time supporting all of her clients. She humbly acknowledges that she works and plays while living on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

— Tall Poppy refers to someone who is noticeable successful, defined as wealthy, prestigious, influential, ranked, or even born, and who may attract hostility, envious attention, or malice. Tall Poppy Syndrome (TPS) is the psychological condition where some people hold someone in contempt in order to cause them to fail or to suffer disgrace by "trim" (cutting) him or her "down to size". Even though TPS has been documented in most countries using a variety of metaphors, words, and phrases, it is rarely mentioned in the United States.
In sharing Douglas' experiences with others and writing about Tall Poppy Syndrome, he helps readers learn about this syndrome. Tall poppies are described in his book in detail, with a section devoted to their societal benefits. The book also describes emotions such as bullying and schadenfreude, which are similar to TPS, as well as examples of Tall Poppies and Fallen Poppies, including Fallen Poppies cut by the U.S. government.
Valeria interviews Douglas Garland — the author of " The Tall Poppy Syndrome: The Joy of Cutting Others Down."
Dr. Doug Garland practiced orthopedic surgery in Southern California for 37 years. He is a Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Southern California and published more than 110 peer-reviewed scientific articles. After experiencing the tall poppy syndrome (TPS) firsthand, Dr. Garland began a 10-year journey researching TPS. This exploration began in Ancient Greece, where the syndrome was first described, to modern times and involved various countries, customs, and cultures. Specific emphasis was directed towards Australia where TPS is a cultural pastime. To his surprise, it was recognized everywhere in one form or another except in America. After studying America's emotional-cultural behavior, Dr. Garland concluded that TPS was prominent in America, perhaps more so than in any other country, but it is unrecognized. Emotional behaviors of the cutter and cutter were identified. The result was the definitive tome, "The Tall Poppy Syndrome - The Joy of Cutting Others Down" with more than 600 citations which is available on Amazon. More information about TPS and Dr.
