Sandy Bailey and I were enjoying our visit only to be surprised when we realized three hours had passed since we had started the interview.  Don’t worry I was able to trim it down some, but decided to split her story into two episodes.  It’s a good thing Sandy is retired because she doesn’t have time for work anymore.

When Rachael Logsdon’s friend told her she needed to learn to quilt, her response was, “Quilting is stupid!” Wow, to go from thinking she didn’t like quilts to making wonderful quilts for others is amazing. Quilting came into Rachael’s life at a time when she needed a new passion.  It’s incredible to hear of her transformation.

Judy was raised by a woman that spent her life teaching people to sew using shortcuts and techniques that were designed by Judy’s mother to speed up the job, so the workers could make money. These techniques were not taught in any books and Judy loves passing the techniques on in her classes, because these wonderful shortcuts leave a professional finish. Her love of people and fabric has led Judy into having a shop of her own, Just Jude’s Creations. I love Judy’s motto of ‘The Shop Where Quilters become Long Lasting Friends!’

We’ve all run into at least one person that thinks we should do something with our quilting that isn’t what we want to do.  Corintha Russell explains this very well and has a great way to let them know that’s not what she does.  She also has one of the best stories of a wonderful reaction to giving a quilt away.  It’s wonderful when others show the well deserved appreciation of receiving a quilt.  I want to thank Sue Stafford of Serendipitee Quilt Shop for putting me in contact with Corintha.

Corintha's first “Ocean Wave” quilt, made for a friend’s Mother. It was pieced by her using Edyta Sitar’s “Over the Rainbow” batik fabrics, quilted by a Longarmer, “Baptist Fan” pattern. She LOVED this quilt so much and is currently working on a duplicate version that she will keep for herself.

In July, 2014 Corintha won the APQS (American Professional Quilting Systems) Great American Give Away! And Freddie came to live with her!!!

Since Freddie (her automated APQS quilting machine) came to live with her in Marion, Ohio. The following pictures are some of Corintha's favorite quilts that she made and Freddie quilted.

Debra Berger likes to build things and has found that putting together quilts is a way to express that talent and fondness of building things.  It’s also something that she can do for others.  Out of all the quilts she has made she only has a few for herself which she says is an honor and blessing to give these quilts away.

DeeAnn Vigil joined the A Quilter’s Life Facebook group a while back and answered that she was willing to be a guest on this podcast.  It’s so great to get to know each other as we all have this wonderful hobby of quilting in common.  From wanting to do something special for her sister and then falling in love with quilting DeeAnn is making beautiful quilts!

Hopefully you had the opportunity to listen to Connie George’s previous episode. We continue our conversation to learn more about her business in this episode. Connie George’s quilt retreats sound like so much fun! Just make sure you take your stretchy britches. She has a goal of getting people together, having fun, and maybe even learning something new.

This first picture is the First Harley Davidson T-shirt Connie made!  The center Diamond came from Diamond Head, Hawaii and I was asked to do something “spectacular “ with it!

The following pictures are from Connie's last quilt retreat that was held in April 2022!! We are all cutting up and being silly and she didn’t think I would really take her picture!  Fooled her, huh?

Elisabeth DeMoo grew up on a farm in New Mexico and learned how to sew by making garments in 4-H. When she was in college she had a sneaking suspicion that she could apply those skills to quilting. Elisabeth has been addicted to quilting ever since! After more than 20 years of quilting she is still excited about the next quilt to make! Sue Schaeffer has such a cute name for her quilting business that it caught my attention and I was excited to chat with her.  After having many different jobs and getting so much experience she now feels fortunate to be able to do what she loves. What an encouragement to hear her say, “We do better as we know better.”
