In this encore presentation, we are highlighting our conversation with Dr. Jeff Temple. Dr. Temple is a Professor, Licensed Psychologist, and Founding Director of the Center for Violence Prevention at the University of Texas Medical Branch. His research focuses on preventing interpersonal, community, and structural violence and has been funded through the National Institute of Justice, National Institutes of Health, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He has over 200 scholarly publications in various high-impact journals, including JAMA, JAMA Pediatrics, The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health, Pediatric the Journal of Adolescent Health.

He recently co-edited a book on adolescent dating violence, is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Primary Prevention, and is on the editorial boards of five other scientific journals. Dr. Temple recently co-chaired the Texas Task Force on Domestic Violence and served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Psychological Association. Locally, he served as the Vice President of the Galveston Independent School District Board of Trustees. His work has also been featured on CNN, New York Times, TIME Magazine, Washington Post, and even the satirical website, The Onion.

In this encore presentation, we are highlighting our conversation with Dr. Brad Reedy, L.M.F.T. Dr. Brad Reedy is a Co-Owner and Clinical Director of Evoke Therapy Programs, an experientially-based therapy program for adolescents, young- adults, and families. Dr. Brad is also an Author, Public Speaker, and Podcast Host, and has served on the Board of the Utah Department of Child and Family Services, the Board of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs, and the En Garde Arts Board, a New York-based theatre company

He is also the Founder of Enlightening Relationships and provides parent coaching, couples therapy, and individual therapy. Previously, as owner and partner, Brad served as a primary therapist, Clinical Director, and Executive Director for Second Nature Wilderness Programs, helping that program become the most successful wilderness therapy program in the country.

In this episode of A Way Through, a special guest host fills in for Jamie. Previously a former guest on the podcast, Andrew Warren, LCDCI, one of our Recovery Coaches and Alumni Students, takes the mic as he is joined by Ryan Taylor, Owner of East End Barber, located in Houston, Texas.

Keeping his blade sharp, Ryan went from a butcher to an aspiring barber. With Louisiana roots, he grew up cutting his brothers’ hair in the backyard and always had a passion for the art. Heavily inspired by everything from the 40's/50's American style to the 60's mod UK vibe, Ryan has a blade for any cut. As the shop owner, Taylor's daily hustle is side by side with his fellow barber, encouraging them on every level.

In this episode of A Way Through, Jamie Edwards, Director of Community Relations at Archway Academy, is joined by Elizabeth Westbrook, LBSW, and Mary Beth Cameron, Attorney at Law.

Mrs. Westbrook is a Licensed Social Worker and Familly Facilitator at Goodnight Law Firm in Katy, Texas with extensive training in alternative dispute resolution techniques, family law, and family violence, with a specific clinical emphasis on shame-free recovery. Mrs. Westbrook has worked in various capacities, including destigmatizing mental health imbalances, the nonprofit sector, and conflict resolution through effective communication tools. Elizabeth is passionate about serving blended families because of her own journey with peaceful co-parenting. She is also currently finishing her Master's in Social Work at The University of Houston.

Mrs. Cameron is a Family Law Attorney and Founder of Goodnight Law Firm, and as extensive training in alternative dispute resolution techniques, family law, and family violence. Mrs. Cameron has served and done work in various legal capacities, including numerous mediations with mutually agreed upon MSAs, domestic violence survivor advocacy, and adoption processes. She is passionate about advocating for children by equipping parents with effective communication strategies and healthy boundaries.

Dr. Catherine Ruscitti, PsyD, CEDS, is a licensed clinical psychologist, a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, and the Clinical Director at the Eating Recovery Center of Houston. She is also the author of The Anorexia Recovery Skills Workbook: A Comprehensive Guide to Cope with Difficult Emotions, Embrace Self-Acceptance, and Prevent Relapse. After receiving a dual degree with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, she continued her studies in clinical psychology and obtained a Master of Science and a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology.

Dr. Ruscitti completed her predoctoral and postdoctoral training with Baylor College of Medicine at The Menninger Clinic in Houston, TX. Dr. Ruscitti specializes in the assessment and treatment of adolescents and adults with eating disorders and related conditions. Her professional interests include treatment interventions for binge eating disorders and the use of acceptance and commitment therapy in the treatment of eating disorders. In addition to direct care, Dr. Ruscitti presents educational lectures to professionals and the general community, is active in conducting research on eating disorders, and has published several papers on the topic.

Dr. Chelsi Clark, Ph.D., is a therapist, public speaker, and writer with over fifteen years of experience in the mental health field. She is the Director of BIPOC Programming and the Co-Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee at Charlie Health, the nation’s largest provider of virtual IOP treatment programs for teens, young adults, and families navigating mental health challenges. Dr. Clark is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, a Provisional Licensed Counselor, and a former psychology university professor.

She has deep, insightful knowledge of the teenage mind from years of working with the school systems spanning different states and has published various well-received articles, most notably on racial microaggressions. Her works have been published in top scientific journals like Psychology in Schools and School Psychology Review.

She is very passionate about young black girls and helping them with the tools they need to flourish and thrive in a world that doesn’t always provide for them.

In this episode of A Way Through, Jamie Edwards, Director of Community Relations at Archway Academy, is joined by Brenda Zane. Brenda is a family advocate, certified parent coach, host of the podcast Hopestream, and founder of an online community, The Stream, for moms of kids with substance use disorder.

Brenda's oldest son struggled with an addiction to a high-risk lifestyle and illicit drugs for over five years. After nearly losing him to multiple fentanyl overdoses, Brenda left corporate America to serve other families dealing with the fear, confusion, and helplessness parents usually feel when they have a child misusing drugs or alcohol.

Today, her son is thriving in a healthy life of recovery, which, in part, Brenda contributes to the CRAFT approach she learned along her family's journey. She coaches parents using the CRAFT model to encourage them to keep a relationship with their children while motivating them toward positive change.

Beginning her career at Caron in 2004 working with teens, Erin has since served in clinical positions with every group served in Caron's core programs. With that experience, she has been instrumental in developing and improving Caron's core programs. Erin is passionate about helping people with substance use disorder and families to overcome the stigma, shame, and barriers that keep them from seeking treatment and engaging in an active recovery program.
