Ever feel like you're just doing too much?

That's exactly what we're diving into today.

I'm Vicki Wusche and I'll be sharing my very own journey of overdrive during a holiday and how it sparked a deep reflection on work-life balance.

We'll also tackle the stress and pressure that comes with an excessive grind.

Discover how gratitude can act as a counterweight and learn to create a no-filter list of 2023 things working well in your life.

We'll also craft a wish list for 2024, not worrying about the execution just yet.

  • Ep 91: Where's the Pram? The Children's Story

Looking beyond the traditional definition of wealth, we're honoured to be joined for this second episode with Dr. Julia Ambler, co-founder and director of the Umduduzi Hospice Care Children's Palliative Care Charity in Durban, South Africa

Her stories of children and families struggling with the harsh realities of illnesses like leg cancer and hydrocephalus, especially in a developing country, stirred my heart.

We take you through a journey beyond the confines of personal wealth, where we explore the essence of life's riches that extend beyond materialistic gain.

We go deep into the lives of mothers who perform miraculous acts of love caring for their sick children in a country with limited healthcare, and we discuss the concept of legacy and the indelible imprints we leave as we go through life.

Dr Julia Ambler takes us through the complexities of leg cancer in children and teenagers, more specifically Osteosarcoma.

The raw reality of families and patients dealing with this aggressive cancer, especially in a country where medical care is scarce and cultural beliefs prevalent, is heartrending.

This conversation amplifies the pressing need for a holistic approach to treatment for young patients with cancer.

We bring light to the trials and tribulations families face when dealing with hydrocephalus and neurological disabilities.

The stigma surrounding these conditions in rural communities is a tough obstacle.

However, amidst the struggle and the sorrow, we stumble upon stories of resilience, triumph, and hope. We share a beautiful story of survival - a child thriving post-leukaemia.

As we listen through these compelling narratives, we reflect on the impact we have on families during their most challenging times, and the privilege of being able to provide support and understanding.

  • Ep 90: Helping Others Is Not A Burden - The Umduduzi Story

Join me as we explore the profound and inspiring work of Dr. Julia Ambler, a pediatric palliative care specialist in South Africa.

Julia, a dear friend of mine, is one of the two directors and founders of Umduduzi, a charity that provides palliative care to children.

With grace and lightness, she helps children who are facing terminal prognosis, and believes it's a privilege to help others.

In our chat, she discusses her approach to treating patients as whole human beings, not just as a collection of symptoms, and shares insights into how you can help others without taking on their burdens.

Julia takes us through the inner workings of Umduduzi and how it fills a critical gap in South Africa's healthcare system.

Beyond medical care, Umduduzi provides a holistic layer of support for children and their families, including emotional, social, economic, and spiritual assistance.

Julia discusses the logistics of palliative care, the charity's digital referral system, and the distinct aspects of palliative care that sets it apart from traditional nursing.

We also explore the vital importance of palliative care for children and how Julia draws joy and strength from her work.

We discuss how taking burdens away from families in difficult times can bring about profound joy and how treating patients as people rather than objects has been a blessing in Julia's life for the past 20 years.

We also delve into the idea of how helping others can bring comfort and joy to our own lives.

  • Ep 88: How Could South Africa Remind You of All You Are Grateful For?

We live in a world where we're constantly chasing money and success. But sometimes, it's crucial to step back and re-center ourselves. That's exactly what I did in South Africa, and today I'll be talking about why it's so important.

Welcome back to A Wealthy Life, the podcast where we explore the different facets of wealth and gratitude. In today's episode we take a journey while I share my experiences and insights gathered during a recent trip to South Africa. In the midst of these reflections, we'll delve into the power of gratitude, the pursuit of goals, and the importance of recentering oneself in order to live a truly #wealthylife. Join us as we explore the beauty of nature, the joy of creating a family home, and the appreciation of the little things we often take for granted!

So the next time you feel overwhelmed by the pursuit of success, take a moment to recenter yourself. Disconnect from the noise, compare yourself only to your own goals, and find joy in the simple pleasures. Remember, it's not always about doing more, but doing what truly matters.

Get ready to be inspired and reminded of the abundance around you in this thought-provoking episode. Let's dive in!
