  • Unveiling our MindsEye with Mike Curtis
I’m Mike Curtis, Director of Special Initiatives for MindsEye Radio. MindsEye is a multi program non-profit that serves the blind and visually impaired population of the St Louis Missouri metro area as well as Central Illinois. Our 3 main programs are a Broadcast Information Service which is over 50 years running, where volunteers read magazines, newspapers, and digital material and then that gets broadcast out to users who can no longer read the printed word. We have a robust audio description program where we do live AD for theatre, sports, and arts. We also have an adaptive athletics program, highlighted by our beep baseball team the Gateway Archers. Our adaptive athletics program gives blind and vi athletes and outlet for team based sports, not traditionally offered.

  • A talk at the table with Sayyida & Joseph
Blind Table Talk  originated as a simple  concept focusing on   being a voice, for the people by the people, that would serve to inform society of the human abilities possessed by those who are blind through the means of interviewing and highlighting various areas of accomplishments and concerns   amongst the BVI community. They wanted to show the world that they are people also who just so  happen to be blind.  Host Joseph Fleeks, otherwise known as the blind  security of the community or jack of all trades, has been totally blind for the past 18 years due to a gunshot wound to the face incurred during a drive by shooting as a teen. With so many other things already stacked against him as a young  African American male, being blind could not be his end to all ends.  His perseverance and hard work resulted in his obtaining a bachelors degree in psychology from The University of Houston. Currently, when he is not fulfilling his duties as the Community Outreach Director for Blind Professionals Network or serving his clients as a Certified Massage Therapist, he enjoys applying his athleticism as a  team player in both the sports of   beep baseball and go ball.  Host Sayyida Victoria, also known as the blind butterfly, sassy Sy or The boss,  has been completely blind for the past 20 years due to a rare condition called Neuro Myalitus Optica .   As a mother of five, she knew that she could not allow this new reality to hinder her success in life. After taking some time to acclimate herself to the necessary adaptations,  She relocated her family from the State of California to Houston, TX where she has resided for the past ten years.   The knowledge she gain by earning an  Associates in Psychology and a Bachelors in Human Resources from The University of Phoenix has  positioned her as The Manager of Education and training for The Houston Lighthouse for the Blind.  She also serves as the Founder and Executive Director of Blind Professionals Network and the Vice President of the Houston Area Visually Impaired Network.  When she is not fulfilling her duties demanded by her many hats, she enjoys traveling, kick boxing, and singing in her local BVI choir. The two of them have taken, what started as an open forum discussion on club house to a now thriving relatable podcast dedicated to empowering, engaging, and connecting the blind and visually impaired community that can be found on all podcast listening platforms. You owe it to yourself to go to www.blindTableTalk.com to checkout the wide array of BVI resources and the events page where, not only can you find upcoming BVI Community events, but you can also share your organization’s events for others to see. If you would like to contact Blind Table Talk to make topics suggestions, appear as a guest, offer feedback, or for any reason, please feel free to email [email protected]. Thanks for your continued support!!

  • Learning literature & languages with Emi
Blind since birth, I was lucky to grow up in a privileged context, which from childhood guaranteed me a life rich in experiences and opportunities.
Thanks to a loving family, as well as a strong, enterprising and determined personality, I pursued my dreams, fought to achieve my goals, becoming an independent and fulfilled woman.
Among my interests: nature, hiking, TV, music, games, cooking, reading and travels.
My passion and propensity for foreign languages guided me in choosing my professional path. I have studied, worked and lived  abroad, graduating in Italy and in the United States.
From 2014 to 2017 , I decided to put up  a travel agency for disabled people. Based on each customer's disability, wishes and needs, I created personalized travel solutions.
Then, I got my Master Degree in the US where I also work teaching at University.
In 2021 I published my first novel titled “Queen of hearts”. I published it in my country and of course, it is in Italian.
It talks about a blind girl able to identify two soul mates just by listening their voices.
Through this seemingly corny story, I wanted to bring people closer to our world, to the world of those who cannot see.
At the moment, I am working as a private teacher and a translator. I have recently started a Youtube channel called “Inventures world”, based on immersive audio adventures.
In my opinions, it’s pretty original, since Each adventure is narrated using the second person, so that the reader can feel involved in it.
The sound effects and voices used help listeners to completely immerse themselves in the environments described.
This project is aimed at those who are blind, but also at those who are fully sighted. It is a way to bring them closer to the way we see, perceive and experience the world.
Since I was a child, writing has been a means for me to tell and tell about myself, a tool of creativity and imagination, able to give shape and substance to the thousand facets of the fascinating, unscramble complexity present in the world and in the human soul.
