Emergency Services are warning that Cyclone Narelle will bring severe weather across the Northern Territory's Top End this weekend.

The system is set to reintensify to a category 3 and is moving westward through the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Authorities says cyclone shelters will open this afternoon in communities in the cyclone's path, including Groote Eyelandt, Yirrpanda, Bulman, Minyerri, and also in Katherine.

Emergency Services Commissioner Andrew Warton says people across the Top End need to be prepared and stay informed.

Defence Minister Richard Marlessays he won't give a running commentary on the latest comments from the U-S president Donald Trump.

Mr Trump has labelled NATO allies "cowards" for not helping to re-open the Strait of Hormuz... and says he was surprised Australia "said no" to U-S requests to get involved in the war.

Mr Marles says Australia is contributing to the security of Gulf States.

Australia has committed a Wedgetail surveillance plane... and 85 defence personnel to the U-A-E.

And One Nation's lead South Australian candidate says he's optimistic about how the results will fall tonight in the state election.

Cory Bernardi says people are feeling let down by the major parties ... and are open to alternatives.

A Labor landslide win is expected but One Nation's results will be closely watched.

Residents in the Northern Territory's Top End are being warned to prepare for the arrival of Tropical Cyclone Narelle.

After hitting Far North Queensland the storm is expected to make landfall in the Northern Territory this evening as a category three system.

The Bureau of Meteorology says severe weather across far north Queensland is expected to ease as the clean-up gets underway.

The system brought destructive winds and heavy rainfall with 300mm falling Weipa in 24 hours.

There've been no reports of substantial property damage or injuries.

Iran has issued a warning to the world that "tourist destinations" are not safe "for enemies", threatening to hunt down US and Israeli officials.

It comes as the US military confirms it is deploying thousands of additional troops to the Middle East.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump labelled America's NATO allies "cowards" for not helping to open the Strait of Hormuz.

South Australians are casting their votes in what is shaping up as an historic state election.

Labor Premier Peter Malinauskas has cast his vote in Adelaide's western suburb of Croydon.

SA Liberal leader Ashton Hurn says she's still feeling optimistic despite polling showing a landslide win is likely for Labor.

The Liberal opposition is languishing in third spot in the polls, behind One Nation.

Cyclone Narelle has been further downgraded to a category 2, but remains dangerous as is heads towards Cape York's west coast.

The powerful system made landfall on Far North Queensland's east coast this morning near Coen at Category 4.

At this stage, there've been no reports of major damage or injuries and rescues.

The cyclone is now closing in on Aurukun with winds near the centre of 100 kilometres an hour, gusting to 140 kph.

It'll move into the Gulf of Carpentaria overnight.

The Israeli military says it's ​struck Syrian infrastructure sites ​in ‌response to attacks against Druze civilians in southern Syria.

The ​IDF says it targeted a military command centre, and weapons in southern ⁠Syria.

It adds the force ‌will not tolerate harm ‌toward the Druze population and that ​it ⁠will defend them and monitor developments ⁠in the region.

Syrian state news has not acknowledged the strike, which marks the first Israeli attack on Syria during its joint war on Iran with the US.

One Nation is distancing itself from a South Australian candidate, who has a warrant for his arrest in the UK

The party's candidate for Adelaide, Aoi Baxter, was charged with sexually touching a woman without consent, with British authorities confirming an arrest warrant has been issued due to his failure to attend court.

One Nation says it was made aware of the allegations today and the matter had not been disclosed to it by Mr Baxter.

The party has since deleted Mr Baxter's candidate page from its website.

Cape York communities have so far fared better-than-expected from severe Cyclone Narelle.

The weather bureau's latest update shows the Category 3 system is 90 kilometres north-west of Coen and continuing a westward track at 20 kilometres an hour.

It has sustained winds near the centre of 155 kilometres and hour, gusting to 220.

The cyclone made landfall near Coen this morning as a severe Category 4.

Queensland Police says there have been no reports of significant infrastructure damage, injury, or rescues in the town

Narelle is expected to cross into the Gulf of Carpentaria overnight and re intensify as it heads to the Northern Territory.

The Lebanese Muslim Association has defended a decision to invite Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke to this morning's Eid celebration in Sydney's south-west.

During the event held at Lakemba Mosque, hecklers booed the PM and the Minister, telling them to leave.

The Association's Gamel Kheir says he knew the decision to include the government was controversial, as many people are feeling frustrated over the rise of Islamophobia.

And strikes are continuing across the Middle-East.

In Jerusalem, sirens sounded and there were booms in the skies above, as families celebrated the first night of Eid.

Iranian state television confirmed it fired four salvos of missiles in quick succession while the Israeli military says it is conducting strikes on "infrastructure of the Iranian terror regime" across Tehran. 

Cyclone Narelle is carving a path across Cape York Peninsula, having made landfall this morning.

It's been downgraded to a Category 3 storm.

A cyclone warning is still in place from Lockhart River to Cape Melville and west between Mapoon and Pormpuraaw.

The cyclone is still heading west towards the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Israel says it's launched a new wave of strikes on the Iranian capital, Tehran.

In a statement, the Israeli military says it's targeting "infrastructure" of the Iranian government.

Iranian outlets are reporting that air defence systems have been activated in the city.

It comes after air-raid sirens sounded and load blasts were heard in the Israeli city of Jerusalem.

Meanwhile the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has denied that Australia is out-of-step with allies after they released a joint statement on the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement came from the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan and Canada.

It condemned the attacks by Iran on unarmed commercial vessels.

And the PM and Minister for Home Affairs Tony Burke have been booed at Lakemba Mosque in Sydney this morning, during Eid celebrations.

The hecklers were escorted out of the Mosque by security, after shouting at the Prime Minister and Mr Burke " get out of here".
