The Prime Minister says national standards for artificial intelligence will ensure new data centres don't increase power prices for Australians.

The new standards will be presented at National Cabinet for agreement next month, with aims to legislate them early next year.

Anthony Albanese says large-scale data centres will be required to minimise water use and maximise energy efficiency.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards say they've targeted fuel and military equipment facilities belonging to the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, in a further escalation of the conflict between the two sides.

The Prime Minister has announced the federal government will establish mandatory standards for artificial intelligence -- in a highly-anticipated speech in Sydney.

Anthony Albanese says the standards will be presented to state and territory leaders for agreement at National Cabinet next month, with the government aiming to legislate the regulations early next year.
