Abounding Grace on Oneplace.com

As Christians we have come to realize we’re saved by grace through faith, not by keeping the law. But does that mean the law no longer serves a purpose? Why did God give us the law? We’ll look into that today on Abounding Grace. Pastor Ed Taylor will point to four reasons that God gave us His law. We’ll cover the first two today.

We join pastor Ed Taylor in Acts chapter two today on Abounding Grace. This portion of Scripture records the day of Pentecost. But pastor Ed is quick to point out that many totally miss the point of this passage, thinking it’s just about the gift of tongues. The emphasis is really on God and how He keeps His promises. He’s faithful and reliable in every way in our lives.

Pastor Ed Taylor is midway through his series in Galatians, and we’ll be in chapter three today. Maybe like many you had an older sibling, or parent that would take you by the hand and lead you to school every morning. That’s exactly what the law of God was intended to do. To take us by the hand to school… leading us to Jesus Christ. When you come to understand that, it makes all the difference in how you relate to the law.

We're in Galatians three today. Here in this chapter Paul is laying out a wonderful doctrinal defense for the grace of God. The Galatians had strayed away from a loving relationship with Jesus and the grace He alone provides. Instead they were trying to live up to the law, as so many still do to today. But as we’re learning through Galatians, that only leads to frustration and failure. Let’s join pastor Ed and notice the real purpose of the law which is to drive us to grace and Jesus.

Pastor Ed Taylor is in the middle of a study in Galatians. In chapter three, the apostle Paul drives home the point that God has promised salvation through Abraham and his seed, Jesus. And God always keeps His promises. The Galatians needed to be reminded of that, as legalists had come into the church telling them the work of Christ wasn’t enough.

From promises to take our kid to the ballgame, or to do something around the house or at work, we so often fail to keep our promises. God on the otherhand always keeps His promises. That we can count on. And pastor Ed Taylor underscores that today on Abounding Grace through this encouraging study in Galatians chapter three.

God gives us many promises in His Word, but do we believe Him? Truth be told, very often we experience a lapse of faith. Be encouraged to go back to a place of trust!

Open that Bible of yours to Acts chapter two. We plan on being here in this chapter for quite some time as there is so much for us to unpack and apply. If you’ll recall last time we were together the disciples were told to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father. Here in chapter two, that promise arrives!

Have you ever tried to do something that was totally outside your ability and simply couldn’t do it? Maybe it was trying to bench press a few hundred pounds or running a marathon and you fell way short of the mark. Today on Abounding Grace we learn that none of us can become righteous in our own effort. Simply put, it’s impossible. Instead we ought to by faith believe in and live by the grace of Jesus.

On our last broadcast we were reminded that we’re made right with God by faith in what Jesus did at the cross on our behalf. And that salvation is a gift to receive not achieve. Hear more about this liberating truth from Galatians chapter three.
